AT&T Says They've Sold Twice As Many iPhone 3Gs as iPhones - July 23rd, 2008, 12:29 PM #1 |
![]() According to AlleyInsider, AT&T says that despite supply issues and fears that it wasn't selling as well as Apple says it has, they have managed to sell nearly twice as many iPhone 3Gs than they have old iPhones in just the 12 days it's been available. They recently posted their Q2 earnings results, and they say they should have an even stronger Q3 now that the iPhone 3G is out. They haven't posted any real numbers to support their claim, however. Analysts have also said that they can expect their subsidizing of iPhones to hurt their earnings by 10 to 12 cents per share this year, and that the iPhone won't be accretive until 2010.

This doesn't surprise me considering all of the glitches in AT&Ts system causing people who were attempting to purchase an iPhone 3G at the Apple store to have to buy their iPhones from them. They also did not allow anyone with corporate discounts etc to purchase an iPhone 3G at the Apple store. It almost seems like AT&T designed it this way so they could increase their sales.

From the ATT i went to before, some didn't even sell the original iPhones. Now the 3G is in every single one of them. Must of helped them boost their numbers.

the sale of more 3g iphones over the first probably has a lot to do with the 3g being offered all over the world, and not just in the US. a larger market will usually result in more sales...duh

If you have an AT&T corporate discount you could NOT purchase the iPhone at the Apple store. This forced many people to have to go to an AT&T store to purchase the phone. I attempted to purchase it at the Apple store. I had no discounts at all on my account. However, due to a glitch in AT&T's web service used by Apple I could not purchase the phone on 7/11. This glitch returned an error code, "IRU", which stated that I had a discount when in fact I did not. Due to the extremely complicated activation process etc... many people were forced to purchase their phones at an AT&T store. So, of coarse AT&T sold more iPhones this go around. |
