AIM Client App Confirmed For App Store - July 1st, 2008, 02:09 PM #1 |
![]() The Guided Tour for the iPhone 3G posted by Apple earlier today covered a wide range of topics pertaining to the new iPhone, including the new software and the highly anticipated App Store. tclary, MacRumors reader with a keen eye, spotted an AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) client app in the App Store demo, which would allow users to message other people on AIM. It was up in the air for a while if it would be allowed, but this confirms that it will most likely be in the App Store at it's launch. ![]() It was up in the air for a while if Apple would allow an application like this to show up on the iPhone when it would encroach on AT&T's paid SMS service, and I've speculated in the past that this may be part of the reasoning for the removal of the 200 free SMS from the iPhone 3G's plans. At the bottom of the screen in the video where this image was taken from, it has a note stating that "Some applications are not available in all areas." There's no word yet on exactly what this will mean and if it will affect the availability of the AIM client. [via MacRumors]

That also means we get to have iChat, too, as iChat and AIM are cross-compatible.
