BGR heard a rumor recently that Apple has secured deals with both Best Buy and Radio Shack to sell the iPhone in the US. There have been rumors that Best Buy might get the iPhone for some time, but they never came to fruition. Both seem somewhat less likely with the iPhone 3G announcement as well, given that in-store activation is being required in order to purchase one of the devices. Apple also lists only Apple Stores and AT&T stores as locations where an iPhone 3G can be purchased when it launches.

I talked to a couple of Apple store sales associates yesterday and they doubted very seriously that there would be in store activation at their location. I also asked about unsubsidised pricing, they confirmed that iPhones would be available at unsubsidised prices. I don't know if they were messing with me or not, but I do plan to be back on July 11th for mine, subsidized or not remains to be seen!

i mentioned the in-store rumor to an apple tech and was told the same thing: it was news to him. i think the rumor about radio shack and best buy is bs too. there is too much involved in the at&t deal to start selling it at local retailers. wouldn't make any sense. i wish it was true though. ever since i got my 1st gen iphone, i have cursed at&t everyday. i have a 500 buck phone that i can't even make or receive calls on in my own home. i have to use my hubby's alltel phone just to get reception... on the other hand, you know my dumba## will be standing in line on July 11 for the 3g. sigh, slave to my iphone.

I will agree with that! I go out of my way to avoid spending a dime at Bestbuy. Radio Shack is no treat either.

I don't see why everyone is against Best Buy. Personally I have nothing against the place. Anyways, the clock is ticking down and I'm not going to believe much until the facts are actually out.

As a Best Buy Mobile employee you'd think you'd have more access to "confidential" info, but I'm just as confused as the rest of the people. Best Buy management has said yes to getting the iPhone 3G while the AT&T rep and Apple rep, both have said they HIGHLY doubt Best Buy will sell iPhone 3G.

I'd say this is highly unlikely to happen. Actually, this is the first time I've heard this.

I agree for the most part. I can see Best Buy having it, but not really at Radio Shack.

I suppose my biggest complaint against Best Buy is that it is never the best buy.

I'm a Radioshack employee, and have spoken with both my D.M. & AT&T rep, who both seem to be clueless to the iPhone 3G coming here (or Best Buy, for that matter). Neither one had heard it before I mentioned it to them yesterday...

You would think that if a store was going to be selling something as big as the iPhone and/or activating it in their own store that they would be training on it the week before its release. We sell PLENTY of AT&T phones per month, especially with Sprint/Radioshack relations declining (bc Sprint gave its new Samsung 'Instinct' exclusively to Best Buy for the first 60 days or so). It will definitely be in select stores if it happens - - - and if it DOES happen, don't expect a July 11 Radioshack or Best Buy release...look more towards August/September range.

Best Buy will have it Septemeber 7th..all sizes with in store activation..!!!!!! So shut up all best buy haters....
