The fifth version of the iPhone software developer kit beta package which was released this week adds limited YouTube support within the handset's Safari web browser. According to an article on iPodNN, users of the latest revision of the SDK can view videos embedded in web sites which now function as links.

Once clicked, these links open the iPhone's dedicated YouTube application, which also lets them quickly return to the page they were viewing.

Access to YouTube.com remains restricted, as it continues to request Flash support that the iPhone firmware lacks. Both Apple and Adobe have expressed a desire to add support, but Apple CEO Steve Jobs has claimed that Flash will not be added until it does not significantly drain battery power.

I don't follow this. Why would Flash have anything to do with the battery power? I could see Flash being processor intensive maybe and that could theoretically draw more power but that doesn't seem significant enough.

No I can totally see this. Flash on my intel mac is the most draining thing I can do in the web browser. Watching flash video player's often causes my fans to spin up to cope with the heat, and really sucks battery life.
