The Easiest 1.1.3 Jailbreak Yet -    #1

Last week the iPhone Dev Team released their official v1.1.3 iPhone jailbreak to the public. It wasn't easy and involved a bit of command-line foolery, but it worked. Thankfully for us mortals, an Installer package was recently released that takes care of all the boring command line, SSH, and FTP lameness. Simply open Installer.app on your v1.1.2 jailbroken iPhone and select "Official 1.1.3 Upgrader" from the "System" category. Once you have the app, you'll be asked a couple questions and then upgraded to 1.1.3.

Before starting the jailbreak, it's a good idea to plug in your iPhone and set it to not go to sleep. You can do this by going into "Settings" from the home screen, selecting "General", then "Auto-Lock", and choosing "Never". We also recommend choosing to do a full restore rather than an update when the jailbreak application asks. You'll need to be connected via Wi-Fi as the app downloads the entire 1.1.3 software update from Apple's servers. It should take about an hour to complete the process.

If your iPhone is on an older software version, you'll need to upgrade to 1.1.2 before proceeding. If you've already upgraded to 1.1.3, you must downgrade to 1.1.2 before running this application. AT&T account holders will need to downgrade from 1.1.3 as well to preserve full functionality.

We were quite happy to find that this jailbreak seemed to be much more reliable than previous versions and has fixed many issues we initially had. If you're having any problems on your jailbroken 1.1.3 iPhone, we recommend restoring and giving this one a try.

Check out Hack that Phone for more info on the jailbreak.

well... -    #3
i've had a jailbroken AT&T 1.1.2 ever since the process was released. just yesterday i figured i'd step up my jailbreak game and advance to 1.1.3 using the "super easy official jailbreak" found in installer and i ended up with a near-bricked phone. so much for reliability....

fortunately i was able to home-power it into restore mode and i'm left with a plain, boring 1.1.3.

Free space left? -    #4
To anyone who has done this... how much free space did you have left when you finished?

I updated using the Dev Team Installer (I thought this was the official one but maybe not) but only had a few Megs left, once done, to install 3rd party apps. Jailbroken but no space to install things doesn't really help much :-(

Well, you can always downgrade back to 1.1.1 & try to do it again. Are you able to identify what part went wrong w/ the upgrade? Did you restore first or just install over your 1.1.2?

FWIW, being bricked is like being pregnant. You either are bricked or aren't. As long as you can put it in restore mode, you're not bricked... just inconvenienced.

Well what next???? -    #6
Ive updated to 1.1.3 using this method - was a bit panicky because the post about it not working (above) appeared half way through the process.
I DIDN'T use restore suggestion because I wanted to keep my contacts list, and lo and behold, the phone works, but I've lost all my contacts anyway!!
In iTunes, the option to sync to a previously installed phone appears, but fails. Looks like its time to type in all those contacts by hand again.

Own opinion, I upgraded to 1.1.3 so that I can use the blue tooth option - if you have no real reason to upgrade - then DON'T !! Great automated process, but the time it's going to take to put all this info back in - well, I won't say what I'm thinking - you can guess that!!

Thanks for the tip -    #9
I will check the link asap!!

Regards the space used on the iphone. This SEEMS to be applications which were installed via version 1.1.2. I have reinstalled these apps, and then uninstalled them, and lo and behold - the free space has increased! It also seems to have been something to do with songs which were in the iphone prior to the upgrade - by unsyncing and resyncing, I have gotten most of the free space back.

The only outstanding thing, how do I remove the "Official 1.1.3 upgrade" program from my iphone. I cant reinstall it (it fails coz Im on 1.1.3), and therefore cannot uninstall it (as I did with everything else) - is there another way of removing the program and icon?

Installer.App -    #11
I've upgraded to 1.1.3 using the new easy jailbreak method. It worked fine. My question is; Is Installer.app supposed to be automatically loaded after the upgrade, because it isn't. So without Installer.app, how do I get new software back onto my iPhone? iFuntastic doesn't appear to support the new 1.1.3 and neither does the Installer.app website. So what was the point of upping to 1.1.3? Jumping icons are cute, but I'd rather be playing Backgammon again.
