More Details On Yesterday's 1.1.3 Jailbreak - January 25th, 2008, 04:37 AM #1 |
|
After spending quite a bit of time restoring and re-jailbreaking my own personal phone I've come to the conclusion that, as many others have, yesterday's jailbreak is not ready. Not for the average user, at least. Talking with readers and other folks who have used this method brought several issues to my attention. For example, users with legitimate AT&T accounts who have upgraded to 1.1.3 and proceeded to downgrade to an earlier version in order to jailbreak will likely be left without service. There are workarounds, but even then there are further issues.
There has been speculation that the primary source of these problems lies in correct permissions, although this notion has yet to be confirmed. However, the one thing I'm certain of is that this jailbreak is only for those users who don't mind ending up with a partially functioning phone. Some issues I've personally observed:
For those experiencing no service when used with a valid AT&T account, the problem can be solved by replacing the lockdownd file located at /usr/libexec with the original file found inside the v1.1.3 recovery package. We're hoping that the dev team comes out with a more reliable version but in the meantime it might be best to wait.

Is there truth to having a legitimate ATT account and downgrading to 1.02 or 1.1.1 would limit your phone abilities? I just upgraded to 1.1.3
and want to downgrade. Has ayone tired with what results? |

1.1.3 Jailbreak woes - January 25th, 2008, 02:37 PM #6 |
|
I used the 1.1.3 jailbreak from a 1.1.1 jailbroken phone. I use ATT. Results are that stock ringtones do not work although all other sounds work. And I have about 400mb of extra stuff that wasn't there before. Other less troublesome is that I had to uninstall and reinstall all my apps so they would show up on the springboard. lastly seeing some incompatibilities with apps like ToDo lists and some games.

Add me to the list - Upgraded from 1.0.2 with an unlocked iPhone and an AT&T SIM that wasn't the original one.
Worked almost perfect - although I can do data stuff with the browser and the weather application, Google maps loads and moves around correctly, but the locate function doesn't work and the Edge icon never appears. Trying to change the APN settings for AT&T Edge doesn't seem to work. Resetting all the network settings under the Settings/General/Reset doesn't seem to help it. I'm guessing they will come out with a fix for this soon. Hopefully! |
