iTunes Video Rental Deals Include Multiple Studios -    #1

The Financial Times's story on the alleged deal between Apple and Fox to provide downloadable content over a movie rental system in the iTunes Store spread fast. The New York Times got ahold of it and has confirmed it through inside sources to be true. They also say that Fox won't be the only one offering content.

According to anonymous inside sources not cleared to disclose information to the public, Apple will be announcing the partnership with Fox at the Macworld keynote. Additionally, the sources also suggest that Fox will not be the only studio on stage making such an announcement.

The Financial Times first picked up on rumors that Apple had begun negotiations with Hollywood studios to pursue a form of online download rental service for movies first surfaced early this June.

netflix and apple -    #2
I spoke to someone at Netflix about why their excellent streaming-movie rental service was only Windows-based, and he said -- is this old news? -- that they've talked to Apple over and over, but Apple only wants to be able people to be able to see movies via the Itunes site.

Apparently the Netflix brand is strong enough that Apple doesn't want any interference going forward that might make them have to share the brand spotlight or profits.

It's kinda gross. I have stopped using iTunes for music downloads unless its the rare song I can't find somewhere else -- I love my iphone, but I really don't like the creepy feeling of corpgreed I get from Itunes.
