Drop EDGE From iPhone Bill - November 16th, 2007, 05:24 PM #1 |
![]() Tired of paying an extra $20 a month for a slow, albeit unlimited, wireless internet service for your iPhone? For the part of the iPhone's target demographic that includes students, the extra $240 a year could be very useful. Well, it turns out that now you can remove Edge from your plan entirely, saving all that money for something more useful, like a 3G iPhone. Keep in mind, removing EDGE from your AT&T bill doesn't necessarily mean going without internet access on your iPhone entirely. Wi-Fi is a useful alternative, and offers faster connection speeds. Unfortunately, no EDGE access means more than not browsing Safari while away from hotspots. Dropping the data plan means no more visual voicemail. If you want to check your voicemail, you need to call your iPhone on a landline, type ( * ), and enter your passcode. It still works, but it's less convenient. Also, it might be useful to install Services.app when doing this, as it allows you to disable EDGE while retaining calls and Wi-Fi. [via TUAW]
