Stream iPhone Music to iTunes - October 31st, 2007, 06:27 PM #1 |
|
Would you like to stream your iTunes Library to your iPhone? That's almost what Mike Ter Louw did... except backwards. This cool cat managed to port Firefly Media Server to the iPhone, which shares music in the same way iTunes does. It installs just as most other native applications do, via Installer. Once you have it running, the server shares your iPhone's music library over the local network. In other words, it looks just like a shared iTunes library on any other computer, making it super easy to share your iPhone library virtually anywhere. Installation is extremely simple because it's done with Installer.app. The phone must be jailbroken and have Installer.app on it. By default, the FireflyMediaServer is not available because it exists in Mike Ter Louw's distribution source. To get the server, you need to add the source to Installer.app. If that sounds like gibberish to you, just follow along. Visit http://home.mike.tl/iphone on your iPhone and tap "Yes" when prompted. This adds the source to Installer.app. Launch Installer and install FireflyMediaServer under the "Media" category. It will take some time to index your music, so it's a good idea to turn off Auto Lock before starting the install process to keep iPhone going to sleep. Once it's finished, any iTunes on your local network should be able to access your iPhone as an available shared library. Excellent for sharing your music on the go. We tried it were very impressed. Now all we need is a way for iPhone to see shared iTunes libraries. [via TUAW]

Try opening installer and restarting the phone. See if that helps.
