Restore Bricked iPhones To Factory Mode - October 20th, 2007, 09:52 PM #1 |
|
A new method has been found on how to "rivirginize" iPhones that were bricked from the v1.1.1 firmware update back to a factory locked state. That's right, they claim that this will bring it back to being good as new, just like it was when you got it. We haven't had time to test this one yet, so take this with a grain of salt. Also, despite the excellent guide, it doesn't appear to be completely finished yet, so be warned.
You can see what the guys have cooked up at the hackintosh forums. Best of luck if you decide to try it out. Let us know how it works out for you.

worked for me... - October 21st, 2007, 07:17 AM #2 |

I tried this method yesterday. It worked flawlessly.
My iphone wasn't bricked. I had a working 1.0.2 unlocked with iUnlock_reloaded. I wanted to revirginize it in order to be able to update to 1.1.1. I did all the steps, restored the iphone with 1.0.2, then updated the firmware to 1.1.1. |

This method worked for me, like a champ, on a Mac. As long as one can do the mental translation of "use WinSCP" to "open terminal and type SCP" and things like that, one can follow the step-by-step without need for being on Windows... except for one step, which is the creation of the .bin_loader from the .bin file.
Other than that, this new "virginizer" method is ready for prime time (but not the NOOB or feint of heart) and allows for the successful migration from 1.0.2 unlock'd to 1.1.1 updated, unlock'd and ready to rock.

It worked for me, I had a bricked 1.0.2 and had to buy a second iPhone.
I Followed the restoring procedure and was able to get phone functions back, also updated to 1.1.1 without a glitch. Now I have two iPhones both working and activated, the only drawback is they are both registered to the same account and can only use one a time (for phone functions). Simply swapping the active sim card activates the phone for use. This time around I will wait a little longer to try any unofficial third party apps, once all the quirks have been worked out and restoring has been succesfull. |
