Apple Says Unlocked iPhones In France Not Certain - October 17th, 2007, 11:04 PM #1 |
![]() Earlier this week it was reported that Apple would most likely be selling unlocked iPhones in France due to a French law stating that all locked cell phones have to be sold as an unlocked version as well. Well, Apple has stated that this was technically speculation based on the written law in France, and not statements made by Apple or Orange. Apparently specifics on the pricing plans and whether the iPhone will or will not be unlocked is still up in the air, so don't get your hopes up quite yet. Nonetheless, the fact remains that French law forbids bundling the sale of a mobile phone and a mobile operator". There might be hope for an unlocked iPhone yet. [via Gizmodo]

I wonder if they could sell unlocked phone but just charge much, much more to discourage their sale. Because if they begin selling actual unlocked phones (not hacked unlocked phons) there is going to be a big, worldwide market for them.
