AT&T Seeking To Block Verizon From Showing 3G-less Areas As "Blank" In Ads -    #1
AT&T is up in arms over Verizon's latest jab at the iPhone-AT&T duo, a TV ad called "There's A Map For That". The ad directly parody's Apple's series of "There's an App For That" ads that features different apps in the App Store. Unfortunately for AT&T, their argument basically amounts to the notion that Verizon's ad might confuse stupid people who aren't paying attention.

In another bang-head-on-desk moment, AT&T is arguing that by showing blank space on AT&T's map of 3G coverage, some people might mistake it as meaning that those are the only locations where they will get any cell service, and are therefore requesting an injunction against Verizon from depicting non-3G areas on the AT&T 3G coverage map as "blank".

Yes... really.

I know this might be obvious to you and I, but keep in mind that AT&T's executives wear those tight ties around their necks, and it tends to inhibit the flow of oxygen to the brain.

The fact is that the strong point for the AT&T-iPhone duo is the iPhone. Most of the surface area in the United States is not covered by AT&T's 3G network. Most of it is covered by Verizon. Not to mention that Verizon's ad is blatantly about 3G coverage specifically, and even has the map accurately labeled as such.

AT&T is going to need something better if they want to push back at Verizon on this one.

Hey AT&T, The ad is accurate, stop you bitching. Why not spend the millions you are spening on this legal action and upgrade your efffffinggggg network! You sell your G*d D*mn 3G phones (and charge $30 for edge service) in areas that do not have 3G. How is this even legal. I miss my 3Gs, but AT&T you can suck it!

This looks like a 5 year old wrote this. I don't understand what it says.

I hated AT&T so much I dumped the iPhone for the Hero, but maybe returning it to get the Droid on VZW.

AT&T and Apple are getting to be like Dell, Microsoft, American Airlines, and all the other big corporate giants who are smothering us with huge fees and restrictive lies! Apple use to be the renegade who revolted against the big giants...

Where's Apple? -    #8
We all know the big, wet, sloppy Blow Job we received from Steve Jobs six months prior to the actual release of the iPhone in 2007, when he introduced the iPhone and basically told us that GSM technology offered the best route because it was more international and that Cingular was the best company in the US with the GSM technology. And boy do I remember the howls of protests even before the iPhone was launched... "Anyone but Cingular!", "Cingular is a Deal Breaker!"... I still hear that only Cingular is replaced with AT&T.

Apple has billions in cash reserves... why do they not improve the network they said was the best choice for the iPhone? The iPhone is doing well... Apple is making a boatload of money off the phone, the AT&T subsidies and the App Strore but is fine to see it's customers wallow with their newfound smartphone on a network carrier that turns out as one that wasn't all the hype that Steve Jobs made it out to be! So to make your product great...

Time to step up to the plate Apple!

The simple answer is that Apple is a separate company from AT&T, and in that sense is separated from their successes and failures. It's AT&T's job to not suck. Investing in AT&T's network would most likely not recoup their cost of doing so in new subscribers from expanded 3G range or coverage.

I hope that made sense. I haven't had my coffee yet today.
