Ngmoco's 'Eliminate' To Be Free, Rely On In-App Purchases For Revenue -    #1

Game developer ngmoco has just announced that following Apple's announcement that free apps would be able to offer in-app purchases, their first person shooter, Eliminate, will be released as a free application, instead opting to charge for "energy", which is used in the game to earn points and be eligible to upgrade weapons.

This is going to be great for the game itself. There will be tons of people downloading this, and since it is all about online play then that means tons of players and matches. So getting in a match should be easy and quick. And ngmoco already has quite a setup to eliminate (pun totally intended) really good players from pwning noobz! So no one can just buy tons of energy to score credits and take over. Aside from Eliminate, why did ngmoco make duplicates of all of their paid apps with push for free. Now Rolando 2 has a paid and free version that are identical (but in the free version you have to in-app purchase the rest of the levels). It's going to get confusing for sure if they keep doing this.
