AT&T Says Network Isn't Ready For iPhone Tethering -    #1

With AT&T reversing their stance of not allowing VoIP applications to be used on their data network, many had begun hoping that they may also change their minds about not supporting tethering in the United States. Unfortunately, an AT&T spokesperson says that's not the case, and explains their reason for not enabling it yet.

“Whenever we offer new features, we want to offer the best possible customer experience. For tethering, we need to do some additional fine tuning to our systems and networks so that we do deliver a great experience.”

But by that logic then they should disable calling till they can fine tune their systems that way everyone will have "the best possible customer experience"

Yep. One of the benefits of being a net nerd is that we get things that other people don't have, and we're the minority, so we don't hurt the network so bad.

of course they are not ready. it is absolutely true.

i live in San Francisco. yesterday i got 4 droped calls, include one with AT&T customer service rep.

i complained the drops, and she credited my account with 50 dollars without me asking.

my signal strength is very good actually, 4, 5 bars constantly, but the calls just get drops very often. i guess their network capacity is not big enough to handle all the connections
