Apple Introduces iTunes 9, Includes App Rearranging, Improved Store, More! Available  -    #1

At Apple's "It's only Rock and Roll" event today in San Francisco, CEO Steve Jobs introduced iTunes 9. This latest version now includes the ability to add, remove, and rearrange applications on the iPhone and iPod touch. This now makes it easier than ever to load up your iPhone with apps and quickly arrange them the way you want. Additionally, iTunes 9 now sports improvements to syncing.

You can now specify which artists, playlists, and genres you'd like to automatically sync, in addition to playlists and other specific options.

iTunes 9 brings with it an improved iTunes Store. We've yet to see if the improvements are carried over to the App Store and to what extent, but it looks good so far. Apple's also included Genius functionality to suggest new apps based on what you've purchased.

Also new is a feature called "iTunes LP" which, according to Apple, reinvents the experience of looking at LP's. The new service shows large album artwork, liner notes, essays from the bands, videos, and more.

Genius has also been improved with a new feature called Genius Mixes. The new feature allows Genius to create a mix of songs that go well together.

Home Sharing now allows you to share any iTunes content, including App Store apps, between your computers at home.

iTunes 9 should be available sometime today is available now at Apple.com and through Software Update.

GENIUS SUCKS -    #2
anyone else wish they could delete Genius? And why if i disable it in itunes it still displays a genuis playlist on the iphone. Just because apple likes it dont mean they have to push it on everyone.

I have also noticed many option that itunes used to do that are no longer available. for one....REMEMBERING EACH VIEW FOR PLAYLISTS. you used to be able to uncheck the box to have the same view for every playlist, now its not even there. They have lost sight of why itunes was invented and started seeing $$$ in the eyes.

From what I can tell, iTunes 9 is part cocoa, part carbon, all ugly.

Don't update if you jailbreak. It won't kill the jailbreak or unlock, but it will probably disable future jailbreaks.

Downloaded it. Not sure if I like the new look. But it's different so that's cool. Glad to finally see app rearranging. My icons are a mess, I've been waiting to sort them out until this was added to iTunes.

Did notice that partially played podcasts are now displayed on the podcast icon as a new podcast. Weird and confusing change.

Updating iTunes won't block your jailbroken iPhone - just don't update your iPhone with 3.1 YET. cracked apps still appear, etc if you are worried. I don't think u can rearrange icons with iTunes either though until you update to 3.1. (which isn't a big deal for me). Dev team should be updating soon!

Home Sharing -    #8
I have been playing with Home Sharing which I really like but there are a few things I have issue with.

The entire implementation! I wish it was more like how itunes <--> appletv sync so I could set up itunes on computers and sync the entire library across everything.

Besides that I think it is a good start, I can get it to do what I want except.

When I purchase applications new they will sync across the local network with no problem, but if I receive any updates they will not sync across the network so have to be downloaded again and every server or manually copied.

Yeah, it's not perfect but at least it's a start.
