Dev Team: RedSn0w Should Still Work With OS 3.0.1 -    #1

The iPhone Dev Team informed users of their jailbreaking software that redsn0w should continue to work with iPhone OS 3.0.1 that was released yesterday, the only difference being: "when redsn0w asks you to identify the IPSW used, point it at the 3.0 IPSW instead of the 3.0.1 one. After the jailbreak, reinstall ultrasn0w 0.9 if you need the unlock."

More details:

The 3.0.1 release is a “branch” from 3.0 that occurs (code-wise) before all the 3.1 betas. The programs redsn0w needs to change for the jailbreak are identical when you compare the 3.0 and 3.0.1 versions. It seems pretty much the only changes Apple made were for the SMS bug, which affects programs that redsn0w doesn’t touch. That’s why you can re-use redsn0w 0.8 on 3.0.1 even though it was written for 3.0.

And since 3.0.1 doesn’t touch the baseband either, ultrasn0w 0.9 works for those needing the soft unlock. Just install it from the repo666.ultrasn0w.com repository using Cydia as usual.

We’ll at some point fix redsn0w to recognize both 3.0 and 3.0.1 IPSW’s, but really that’s the only change that would be made to it. Everything else would be identical, so there’s no need to wait for the “proper” version that recognizes the 3.0.1 IPSW as valid.

Worked fine on my 2G. I'll test my 3G later. I hear 3G S people are having issues with the work around method.

works on 3GS -    #6
Worked flawlessly on 3GS

1) Sync/Backup
2) Upgrade to 3.0.1
3) Redsn0w .8 to jailbreak (using 3.0 IPSW)
4) Restore jailbroken apps with APTBackup
5) enjoy again!

What if you used purplerain to jailbreak your 3gs? Will this update effect the phone and if so can you just re run purplerain again to fix it ?

Anyone have any luck using redsn0w with a PPC? I tried, but I cannot get the DFU mode to work. Yes, I followed the instructions. I got it to go into DFU using Quickpwn, but at the end of the day, it overwrote my 3.0.1 OS back to 3.0.

A little help, please?

are you turning it off, holding the home button, then inserting the 30 pin dock connector, or are you doing the whole thing here you hold the power and the home, then let go of the power? you need to do the first one on 3.0 and 3.0.1

I call schnanigans on your DFU tip. Still doesn't work. And the instructions from RedSn0w tell you to do it my old way (i.e., hold power, then hold power and home, then release power) to get DFU mode. If it was not applicable to 3.0 and 3.0.1, then Dev Team would not have put that in instructions for 3.0.

Guess I'm waiting until 3.1

Oh well.

Turns out you were partially right. I got it to enter into DFU by the power, power/home, home move, but then I had to take it off the adaptor and then re-hook it to the adapter.

My bad on schnanagans - you were on the right track.

That's what most people forget. Pull the USB adaptor and put it back in. 3.0.1 works.

I had to unplug then replug my usb cable while redsn0w said "waiting for reboot". Other than that, it worked great!
