iPhone Dev Team Releases Unlock For 3GS [Update: Comments From The Dev Team] - July 7th, 2009, 01:17 PM #1 |
![]() The iPhone Dev Team has released a new version of RedSn0w that jailbreaks the iPhone 3GS, as well as 2G, 3G, and iPod touch 2 on OS 3.0. It runs on both Windows and Mac, and has the same instructions for each as previous versions. The problems with Icy and Cydia have allegedly been resolved, and Ultrasn0w should work on the 3GS after you jailbreak with RedSn0w. Mobile Substrate and Winterboard are also now working on the 3GS. BigBoss is hosting the files here: Windows, Mac. Update: The iPhone Dev Team has posted a statement on their blog explaining why they went ahead and released the jailbreak for the 3GS. Initially they wanted to wait until OS 3.1 was released to get as many people on board as possible before releasing it, as Apple would inevitably fix the hole in their next software update. However, this tactic became meaningless once purplera1n was released, as it uses the same hole. As usual, the Dev Team had some reminders in the blog post as well: ultrasn0w unlockers — You all must remain particularly vigilent against upgrading your basebands, since doing so will kill the unlock (for most phones, there’s no going backwards in baseband version). Apple has gotten very serious with the latest baseband — they’ve removed 180 (!) commands in an effort to cut down their exposure to holes. So please always stay away from stock Apple IPSWs and instead use our tools as we release them. These tools let you update your firmware without updating your baseband.

UltraSn0w should be able to unlock it once you have it jailbroken with RedSn0w.

phone 3gs Unlocked - July 8th, 2009, 01:10 AM #7 |
|
I just unlocked my 3gs with ultrasn0w. 100% real
I jailbroke with freeze and unlocked with ultrasn0w. Winterboard works great. off the subject. instead of using an ssh program try using PHONEVIEW if you have mac. its a easier way to transfers files to and from your iphone Last edited by eltripone123; July 8th, 2009 at 01:12 AM. |

What is the difference between the RedSn0W break and Purplera1n? Is one more reliable than the other? Any reason to do one over the other?

Personally I'd use redsn0w over purplera1n just because GeoHot likes attention and rushes to release things not thoroughly thought out. No offense to GeoHot, he's brilliant, but he is not known for his polished programs, usually his raw instructions. Remember purplera1n was released to goad the iPhone Dev Team into releasing new tools now and not wait for 3.1 firmware to come out. GeoHot exposed the exploit anyway so the Team decided to release early.

Jailbreak - July 9th, 2009, 02:42 AM #10 |
|
Personally ive been jailbreaking my iphone ever since it was first out for 1.0.1 back in august of 07 purplera1n is the easiest way that ive ever jailbroken a phone with and it all works great. The Unlock actually helped fix my visual voicemail problem.
