TomTom iPhone GPS To Choose Single Price Over Subscription? - July 6th, 2009, 11:07 PM #1 |
TomTom gave us a peek at their turn-by-turn GPS system for iPhone at WWDC, but we didn't know much about features or pricing. Macworld recently talked with TomTom's Market Development VP to get some answers. Tom Murray, the VP of Marketing Development at TomTom said in his Macworld interview that the hardware solution they created for the iPhone (a.k.a. "the car kit") would not be required to use the TomTom app, but will be recommended. Murray also mentions that the company is "leaning towards" making the app and maps singly priced. This approach would be different from the AT&T Navigator application [iTunes Link] which uses a subscription based model to provide turn-by-turn directions. You can read the full interview with TomTom on the Macworld website. |

Non-subscription based. That's good news!

single price is the way to go. I had Tom Tom on my att tilt.
i use XGPS now on my iphone, 1. its free and 2. as long as your in a decent data area, its as good if not better than tomtom in my opinion. there were some extra settings on tomtom that were cool. |

Im sure tomtom will be a one time purchase like all of their software. The thing is the updates will be 100 each. Has anyone checked out the new gmap for 34.99 it is very nice and updates are free for life.

i think single price is the way to go, second I would hope that it would have savable maps to the hard drive so when your not in a data area you can still get the maps. that is what the google map app is lacking.

i'd pay $100 for it. No joke. I also would have 0 buyers remorse afterwards. I think making the iPhone into an actual, viable, GPS unit is well worth $100 bucks.
