Listening to the podcast and wanted to shed light on one thing. About the different price quotes people are getting. I contacted AT&T and they said there is 2 options basically. 1. pay the full, "no-commitment" pricing of $599/$699, and this will not give you a new 2-year contract, you will still be at you were. 2. Get an "early upgrade", which is extending to a new 2-year contract, but not eligible for subsidized upgrade price, which the pricing will be $399/$499. Also, they said you could cancel your contract and the pricing is $175, but subtract $5 per full month after the first month. You will also lose your number and be assigned a new number, but you will not get flagged and will not be told you have to wait to open a new contract. I got new hope when I found out about the "early upgrade" thing because, even though I will not get the $299 price for the 32GB, but I will get it for $499 instead of the full $699.
Also, I think you can only do the "early upgrade" at an AT&T store. Therefore, if you purchase at an Apple store, Apple website, or AT&T website, you will definately pay the full "no-commitment" pricing. Not 100% on this, but this is what i saw on the AT&T website and what they told me when I called and asked this.

When I tried it didn't work. But I have just returned from my local AT&T store and I preordered my 32GB white iPhone 3G S. I got it for the early upgrade fee of $500. A manager had to keep walking over and over ride/approve the transactions of the early upgrade.
