Some sites have had audio in the past. I can't remember if iPhoneAlley had audio last year, but last year I checked like 4 different sites at the same time and I know at least one had audio. However if I remember right, one of the audios wasn't the best, it was kind of better to not have it, but who knows it could be good this year for whatever sites offer it.
Edit: I just read on TheAppleBlog that Apple is not allowing any live audio video and is not providing any themselves.

What price? - June 8th, 2009, 03:11 PM #4 |
|
The big thing (to me) that wasn't mentioned is what it's going to cost me to upgrade to the new 3G S. Sure, they list the subsidized price in the speech but what about all of us that already got the 3G and aren't eligible for another subsidy? Is my only choice to pay $600 for the new phone?
This sucks because, before the subsidy, I was able to sell my original iPhone for close to what I'd paid, then _purchase_ the new one. That won't work this time because the resale on a 3G is going to be damn near nonexistant with the price drops Apple just announced AND I'll have to pay for the new phone. I understand their reasoning for switching to a subsidized pricing model but it appears to really be screwing me. |

What a bust. I'm going to have to review the benchmarking for the "s" as to whether it is upgrade worthy. I don't care about the camera "upgrade" (still no photo flash) and I can do video right now on my jailbroken Iphone 3g. No Adobe Flash support for browser, no MMS or tethering for AT&T users at launch, no front facing video camera, no real improvement on weight/size/durability of hardware. Voice dialing? Are you kidding me?
No Steve Jobs busting in with "one more thing." Yes, I've been spoiled by prior keynotes, but so what? I'm the consumer - wow me. If not, then buh-bye. That's my right as a fickle consumer. Now pass me the next pet rock. All in all - the iphone 3gs seems like an "in-betweener" model. You know - the same schlock Amazon did with its Kindle "upgrade" and then subsequent bigger, better screen upgrade. I might wait for the next round before going here. Back to dreaming about a tablet mac. I'm betting the lines aren't going to be as long. Let's see what the hands on reviewers have to say. Oh - and one more thing. . . . . NOT!!!! ![]() |

You know the drill - renew your contract another 2 years, get the subsidized pricing model. Don't renew and pay full freight.

Apple never said anything about iPhone 3g owners..... - June 8th, 2009, 03:39 PM #7 |
|
They never said anything about existing iPhone 3G owners being eligible for the $199-$299 prices. Also, I am on the iPhone 3GS site, trying to preorder one or whatever they are doing and I put in that I'm an existing customer trying to upgrade and it says I have to pay $699 and I wont be eligible to upgrade until 2010.
Hopefully this is just because the site was just put up and we previous owners will get the subsidized price. If not, that would be extremely LAME, because i will pay the 300 for the upgrade but i wouldnt pay the 700 just for speedier features and a better camera. I am more interested in 3.0 as a whole. Edit: Just read that existing iPhone owners will probably have to pay $399 (16GB) or $499 (32GB) rather than $199 or $299 if they wish to upgrade. A bunch of bull if you ask me.

Relax - all will be revealed with pricing once they pull their heads out of their hard drives. They're not going to charge current users $700 for the upgrade. AT&T would if it could, but it can't. It will just do the whole 2 more years buffoonery.
Time to come up with new "upgrades" for the phone motto "Iphone 3g(s) for speed" Iphone 3g(s) for sucks Iphone 3g(s) for shi&&y upgrades Iphone 3g(s) for seriously, this is it? Iphone 3g(s) for so NOT getting one. Iphone 3g(s) for still not good enough. Let's face it - "(s)" stands for a little more processor power, data storage capacity and an "improved" camera. Given the fact the current camera is not much more than a keyhole camera, anything was an improvement. More power, you say? Meh, who cares with AT&T's craptacularly slow 3g network that won't permit MMS or tethering at software/hardware launch? Who cares without Adobe Flash? The rest of the "upgrades" are really software improvements - voice control, data wipe, compass, search features, and the yawn function. Walt Mossberg's suggestion that the "pre v. Iphone" battle would need further evaluation in light of today's iphone hardware upgrades was greatly exaggerated. I'm not going to rush out and get a pre, but what a let down. ![]() |

I went back and finally watched the actual presentation at WWDC. I didn't realize what a joke AT&T was during the presentation. It was very entertaining to hear him deadpan about how many carriers in how many countries would support things like MMS & tethering... and AT&T will be offering it later. Quite funny. I enjoyed the crowd's reaction.
