Apple To Preview iPhone OS 3.0 March 17th -    #1

Engadget reports that Apple will be previewing iPhone OS 3.0 at a special event on March 17th. With the new OS, Apple will also be updating a revised edition of their SDK. The event will take place at 10am PST, and is being described by Apple as an "advance preview of what we're building", so it's unlikely that they'll have it ready for release by that time, but hopefully we'll start seeing some of those features we've been waiting for.

My expectations are low -    #2
I have lost complete confidence that the iPhone will ever get those features that we have been asking for over the last TWO YEARS. We have only ourselves to blame, we keep buying the device even when it dose not have the major features that we want/need, and until the sales for the iPhone head south Apple will not respond to the desires of the consumer market. Be mindful that there are a lot of good devises coming up from other makers and once we get our eye off the shiny iPhone we will start to see all we want and more with other device makers.
Face it, Apple though that a mobile music store (that up to only a short while ago was only available on wifi) was more important then a basic switch to turn on and off the word completion, yet alone cut and paste, a real spell checker or a useful word completion, and maybe a landscape keyboard in email.

Love my iPhone -    #4
I agree...if you (or anyone) is that unhappy with your iPhone, please go elsewhere and get whatever phone that will make you happy. Personally, I love my iPhone. It may have some shortcomings and certainly there are things that I would like to see it have but it is BY FAR the best phone/mobile device that I have ever had. I'm looking forward to seeing what things will be coming!

WOW, that is exactly what i think....I am about ready to toss my 20inch imac in the trash over the iphone. Apple has seriously fu$ked up its rep. iphone 3.0 will be a bigger let down than the others. im just following their track record! im more pissed about what they did to the 3G compared to the 2G. the battery sucks, the screen scratches easier, will not support charging on almost all older products(sucks when you have purchased a $1500 car stereo and your 3G will not charge even with the charging adapter) etc etc. and for Jobs, i hope he has cancer of the anu$ and dies a horrible death.(not really, but seriously he is pissing me off.)

You're the sick one, not us! It's you who doesn't get it! Wishing cancer on someone because you don't like your iPhone! Even as a joke. Get a life and buy a different phone.

To the sane people: I wish there were certain features, but I love! this iPhone. I remember the discussion about why couldn't apps run in the background. Last week my iPhone's battery started draining really quickly. I brought it to the Apple Store and they ran a diagnostic. It turned out that some apps were running in the background and draining the battery. One of the apps I had deleted the week before.

I restored my iPhone and it's fine again.

Dan

Great! -    #8
Wow! I can't wait for the 17th! Some features I hope they start including:

1. Landscape keyboard for texting and other apps

2. Allowing apps to run in the background in a way that doesn't cost a lot of battery life. (ie Pandora running in the background would be great!) If they do this they should great a way you can monitor what apps are running in the background to prevent unwanted apps from abusing the feature.

3. Copy and Paste. I am not in big need of this but it would be nice.

4. One of features that I always wanted, this is more of a third party app, is the iPhone to be able to edit Word and Excel files and to be able to serve as a flash drive.

I am sure I can think of more things that would be nice but those are some.

Question, is 3.0 just an update on the software or is it new hardware as well?

NOTE TO HATERS: Chill out.

3.0 -    #9
I am a jailbreaker and we already have copy/paste. We can run programs in the background, like pandora and yes it is great. We just got ibluetooth, to send files etc. over iphone bluetooth. We have a video camera - thanks to cycorder. Swirlymms tries to bring mms to iphone but I have never been able to get it to work. So other than that I PRAY 3.0 is jailbreakable and they add a Native mms then my perfect iphone would become a more perfect iphone.

At least i can rely on it -    #11
yes we do have a some what large feature want list.

When the original iphone came out i decided to get a different phone so i stuck with verizon and got a samsung sch i760. it was a smart phone that could do background process, send and receive mms messages, it had copy paste, 3g data, built in wifi, a numeric keypad, a slide out full qwerty keyboard, touch screen, user install able apps, removable battery, and only $200 at that time. Well it sure looked good on paper but i could not rely on that phone at all it would completely crash or lock up 3+ times per day witch is outrageous. It ran windows mobile 6 but websites were a pain to view and browse and whenever you were done using a program you had to go in to settings, system, memory, memory management and force quit the app and if you would listen to music on the phone you couldn't do anything else. It was crashing all the time when trying to receive a call not to mention that about once a month you needed to reinstall the os.

keep that in mind next time u start complaining the iphone cant do this that and the other thing at least it works reliably on a daily basis i was standing in line for my 3g on july 11th and i love my iphone even wit the few problems i have had its still the best phone i have ever had oh and fyi my first cell was a bag phone

Alright dude. You are being rude and you need to knock it off. Don't turn this thread into a big argument because you are being critical of your iPhone and are using profanity to antagonize. If your going to post again make it constructive. Your jokes about Steve Jobs are just degrading.

To everyone who prefers to use this thread to actually discuss iPhone 3.0 and not to take another opertunity to take a jab at Apple: I am personally just going to ignore any more posts of this nature just to cease the continuation of a pointless arguement and I hope all others do the same. I just wanted to retaliate and place this individuals in his proper place as his behavior and vocabulary is childish and unproductive.

If people don't like apple products, why buy them in the first place? Like a 20 inch iMac or and iPhone. If you don't like the product, don't buy it. You had the chance to demo it, read the packaging, etc. etc. Wishing Steve Jobs cancer is terrible, and if he really happens to die because of cancer in a horrible death I'm sure you would feel terrible about it.

About iPhone 3.0 OS: I think it will be great, the jump from 1 to 2 was fantastic with the appstore and now 2 to 3 should be good. Just my two cents worth of what I think

The point of it all.... -    #16
I love Apple, I am a big fan but the point here is that we have the most advanced phone to date and cannot do the basic features that we took for granted on our other phones. The things listed above and mms would be great. I am disappointed with them for not putting them on our phones to begin with. But maybe Apple will surprise us. Though like mentioned earlier they have disappointed in previous releases. And i will not get rid of my iphone until something better comes along or Apple kicks it up a notch. I love the ipod feature and the app store those are cool, but i want the simple stuff that we all know our advanced iPhones can handle and are fully cappable of. Anyway let's Respect each other, our opinions and concerns.

I partially agree with you, but the fact stands that we cannot complain excessively because we bought these phones KNOWING these features were not enabled. Personally, I think Apple will implement landscape texting, bluetooth file exchange, mms and copy and paste fairly soon maybe in 3.0. Anyways, if you REALLY want these features like I did, then just jailbreak your phone. I did it, and I'm happy. As long as you don't use winterboard, the phone doesn't slow much.

You can landscape, send files via ibluetooth, sbsettings is also great, cydia and installer are awesome installous for all your free app goodness, and if you add the xsellize source you can get landscaping free. (cracked)
If you want to support the developer (and you should) buy the app. Landscape sms is only 5.95 but if you want details about it then PM me.
Besides, if you don't like the jailbreak you can always restore.

Hope this helped
