Official "Pwnage Tool 2.0 Wont Launch" thread - July 20th, 2008, 02:10 AM #1 |
|
UPDATE----------------------------
To fix the bouncing app issue: - Launch Pwnage Tool 2.0 - Open "Activity Monitor" (in utilities folder) - Find the process "ps" (make sure you look under "all processes") - KILL IT! Pwnage Tool will now open! Thanks to flag420 for discovering this. This thread is for those of us having the issue of the new Pwnage Tool refusing to launch. It seems many users are having this issue: the app just bounces in the dock for a while, and then has to be forced to quit. I haven't been able to find a connection yet, but hopefully if we think together we can figure something out. Post the specs of your machine, maybe that has something to do with it. My computers: 1.33GHz PowerPC PowerBook G4, 756mb ram, OS X 10.5.4, iTunes 7.7 2.6 GHz PowerPC iMac G5, 2.5gb ram, OS X 10.5.4, iTunes 7.6 Pwnage Tool 2.0 will not launch on either of my machines, and I've heard some intel machines are having the same issue. I'll keep searching for an answer and let you know if I find anything. The Dev Team has ignored this issue so far, but hopefully that will change soon. I don't think this is a bug in the programming since it works on some systems but not others. I am running a 2.2 macbook with 2 gb ram and 10.5.4 software. I have no problems loading it at all.
Try restarting your computer, download from a different source as well. maybe the app became corrupt. I use zipeg for my zip/rar files so maybe the extractor y'all are using is faulty? |

Yeah unfortunately I think it's our systems, not their code, the trick will be to find the common problem here.
It wasn't working for me. PowerBook G4/1.25 Ghz/2G Ram/10.5.4 I also tried, through the magic of the internet, on the box my mom uses for email -- my old G4/450 tower on Tiger. Didn't work there either. Next I downloaded the latest version of iTunes. Still nothing. Rebooted and it stated working. So there you have it. |

having the same issue. downloaded from three different sources, all did the same. app bounces in the dock, "PwnageTool" shows up in the menu bar, but must force quit the app.
blackbook 2.16ghz core2duo 2gb ram leopard 10.5.4 itunes 7.7 (43) also, have tried rebooting several times, still doesn't work. maybe a permissions repair? edit: verifying/repairing disk permissions and rebooting did nothing. will have to figure something out soon, aye? a friend of mine mentioned making a new user account, and starting the process all over again. (re-downloading, unzipping, etc etc. after trying that, still, no luck. =[
about to pass out tho. tomorrow's plan is to try resetting the p-ram and trying again. i'm sure there's only some slight little hiccup that's stopping us. |

Found a solution ! - July 20th, 2008, 08:14 AM #14 |

Once the Pwnage icon is bouncing, launch the OS X Activity Monitor and kill the sub-process named "ps". Then pwnage might launch as it did for me !
Good luck |

Im running
iMac Intel core 2 duo (alu) 10.5.4 2.4ghz 3gb ram iTunes 7.7 and havent been able to get this working. The machine itself is a month old! Ive downloaded it via Safari (it opens the zip automatically) via Firefox (unzipped using Stuffit, Unarchiver, Archive Utility) and still getting the same response ie bouncing in the dock. Ive downloaded from various sources, uninstalled the previous version of Pwnage & tried rebooting. The only thing I havent tried is logging in as a new account but I really think thats not going to make a blind bit of difference. Theres definitly something wrong with the code of the app here cos its not confined to one type of system. If it were just Intels then we'd be seeing that pattern, just PPCs then that would be obvious too etc etc. I think itd be just as intructive to see what systems the people who have got it going are running too. I'll have to just on my hands until then. |

I cant find this process. Its just called 'ps'? In fact theres nothing other than the app itself. I'll admit I dont know Act Monitor that well so I may be missing something.

I assume that you just launched the "Force to quit" window, and that it is the reason why you just can see the app itself.
You must launch the activity monitor wich may be located in Application/Utilities/ Then you may be able to find a process just called 'ps' Kill it ! Last edited by flag420; July 20th, 2008 at 08:32 AM. |
