Unlocked phone with edge

Is there a way to use EDGE with a phone thats unlocked using another services provider?

I've been trying to find the answer to this,
So if you gain access to at&t's EDGE using an unlocked iPhone, will your phone bill increase? If so, and I don't want to pay more, should I avoid accessing the internet without wifi at all costs? This is for at&t btw, not T-mobile.

My provider in Sweden doesnt support edge but if you enter the gprs settings it works anyway...
