Hi All.

I've read all necessary material at hackthatiphone.com, but I still have some questions about jailbreaking. Could anybody please clarify them.

1) Does pwnage tool (and similar) load the whole modified firmware to iphone or only the mordified part of firmware?

2) If new firmware released by Apple and new version of pwnagetool released for this firmware, is it reasonable to update the iPhone?

3) Do I understand right that in case of such update all contacts and apps from AppStore will be succesful sinchronized with iTunes for updated iPhone?

4) Do I understand right that in case of such update all apps from Cydia will have to be installed again? Also paid apps (iLog, SwirlySMS), and I will have to pay again?

5) Is any method to save paid apps from Cydia and not to pay again (and again)?

6) In iTunes we have bar that show us how much memory different data take: applications, audio, video etc. What is the apllications from Cydia here?

7) Is any limitations for the amount of applications from Cydia I install? Limitations of partition? Where apps is installed?

8) Is any problem to use application from Cydia and from Installer at the same time?

Thanks a lot in advance.

I'm not an expert but I'll try and help...

1. It depends on which tool you use and if you are on Windows or a Mac. I used QuickPwn. I didn't have to download the firmware - it jailbroke my phone for me.

2. Wait for your tool of choice to come out with an update then you can. Usually only a few days.

3. Yes... I've never lost my data but back it up just in case.

4. Yes but you can back up Cydia apps too - there are a couple of programs to do this. I use AptBackup - make sure to follow the instructions closely.

5. Read above.

6. Yes apps from Cydia are there.

7. I don't believe so - just like the app store - it's only limited to your phone space.

8. No, there's not. *But* I've heard Installer is out of date and there are more apps on there that can 'freeze' your phone. I've stayed clear of it b/c of that.

It seems that in case of update to new firmware one will have to pay for apps from Cydia again.

AptBackup just make a list with apps, but one will have to install all apps again, therefore pay again.

You don't have to pay again to re-install software. Appstore recognizes thru your account info that you have already purchased a product and will allow you to download it again for free. With regard to other paid applications, you're usually able to re-load apps without paying again, as long as you have the key or whatever you received when you bought the app.

All is ok with AppStore: iTunes and my personal info at Apples servers save all info about bought Apps.

But I'm really not sure that anything is saved about my purchases in Cydia in case of update to a new firmware. As I understand in case of upfate I will have to restore my iPhone in iTunes, this erase all of the data (official data will be backed up in iTunes). Then I will have to jailbreak, in other words correct a part of firmware. Then I will have to install all necessary soft from Cydia again. And pay again.

I've encountered with app in Cydia to buy which I have to use serial number. In such case I buy serial number and just need to save it in oder not to pay pay twice. But it was only app I've encountered.

For SwirlyMMS, MySMS, iLog (all the most necessary soft for base functionality in my mind) I have to pay again, as I understand. Haven't I?
