My iPhone gives me a message that the server cannot be found despite getting a good wifi signal strength and the wireless working fine for my desktop computer. Any ideas?

I've seen this problem before.
Reboot your iPhone, see if that works. If that doesn't work, try rebooting your router.
If you still have problems, make sure you have it set to DHCP in your wireless settings on the iPhone. Do this by going to Settings>Wi-Fi and tap the blue arrow by the wireless you have selected. Make sure it's set to DHCP, not Static or BootP.
If that's good, make sure you're getting an IP address that doesn't start with 169 because that's not a real IP.
If you still can't get things to work, tap the blue arrow again and tap "Forget this network" and try setting it up again.
If that doesn't work, sync your iPhone and try restoring. After a restore, try again. If that doesn't work, you have a bigger problem.
