Since the initial rumors of a phone product from the electronics superpower, Apple, Inc. (then called "Apple Computer Inc"), the media has been buzzing with speculation about the new product. When it was formally announced by Apple CEO Steve Jobs during his Macworld keynote in June, it was at the center of attention, both in the tech news and elsewhere. It was at this venue that he announced the iPhone would ship in June.

Initially following the statement by Apple, the iPhone was reported by CNET as being released in June as well. During Apple's F2Q07 Earnings Call on April 25, 2007 at 5:00PM ET, Chief Financial Officer Peter Oppenheimer confirmed that timeframe. This coincides with Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference, an event lasting from June 11 to June 15. Many speculate that, following another presentation of all of it's features and the policies to be implemented by Apple, it is likely pre-orders will begin immediately, with the phone shipping 1-2 weeks later.

A sense of general confidence about Apple's ability to hold to the schedule for the iPhone, as well as make it succeed, was apparent throughout the conference call. He mentioned that "Apple's proven capability to create innovative software gives us a tremendous competitive advantage in the consumer electronics industry. We are taking this bold step to leverage what we do best."
