Up until now the component AV cables (connectors for sending audio/video out from iPod to a 30-pin TV connector) listed on the Apple Online Store only listed the iPod classic as the supported device. It has since been updated to include audio/video out support for not only the classic, but the iPod touch and iPhone as well. Interesting thing is as far as we know the iPhone doesn't support video out.

Unless this is a mistake, it appears that Apple is planning to add (or has already added) audio/video out for the iPhone. If it's not already available, it will likely be added soon in an update. Still, Apple made no mention of a/v out for the iPhone at the keynote... very unusual indeed.

that would be very cool to have. Hopefully it wasn't a typo.

couldn't it just mean you could play the audio out through AV?

Interesting, but the iPhone can do video out. After all Steve did it at the Keynote. So the hardware is there. Steve mentioned they used a special cable - not a special iPhone.
It will be interesting to see how this fans out.... KeyNote mobile? :D

He was using "a special board", not just a cable. If you look REALLY close (and I mean fanboy close) at the iPhone in the Macworld keynote you'll see that the iPhone used is actually fat at the bottom.

Don't get me wrong, the AV-out would indeed be badass, but I personally think the chances are thin. I don't want to be pessemistic, but here's why I think its not happening.
It was never mentioned in the first place. I would think it would be a bigger deal. At least it would be to me. I use that all the time on my 80GB "Classic" ( That I just bought... But that's another story...).
Look at the charger base. The back of it has the USB input and a "Line Out." If it were video compatible, it would say "AV-Out," just as the Apple brand Classic docks do. Not to mention the small detail that it is missing an "S-Video Out" that the Apple one has.
This goes with headphones as well. The Apple AV cord doesn't fit! Now after reading this, I got curious and shaved mine down so I could get it in there. The audio plays, but that's about it. If they do pull off video output, Apple will need one that fits in that tiny ass hole on the top of the iPhone. Hell, while they're at it, make that headset adapter already.
On the non pessemistic side, it thororetically takes a mere software update to patch, and lord knows I want video output!

I totally agree with you, except for the fact that the new cord uses the dock connector, not the headphone jack. The AV out was never mentioned on the touch or classic, so I'm guessing Steve doesn't think it's relevant.
The touch and the iPhone are (ostensibly) the same thing sans sim card and GSM radio so I can see it happening. The special board was probably used because you never see the actual iPod interface on your tv anyhow (as far as I know), just the video.

The iPhone is not on the list of supported devices anymore. A shame, but we can guess what's coming down the pipe on the next iteration.
