View Full Version : iFuntastic 3.0.3 vs iTunes 7.4 on PPC

I'm running:
First time install.

Power Mac G4
PPCG4
733 MHz
1.5 Memory
USB 2.0 PCI Belkin

iTunes v7.4
iFuntastic v3.0.3

The Story:

iFuntastic says its "unshackled." I get the "good" sounds saying files are uploaded, i.e. modded screens, modded carrier logs. When going to the phone nothing has been changed. Restart phone and or cpu, nothing... Go to "File Manager" in iFuntastic & I get a communication failure or a blank screen in iFuntastic, eventually ending in a communication failure.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks in advance,

David1421

I have even tried the NES emulator with no success... Any paths would be great.

I think they did something goofy with iTunes 7.4

Try installing an earlier version and see if that works.

This problem with ifuntastic was happening to me also. Nothing was being modded. So I thought. But I had to reset my network and when doing so then everything showed up. So try resetting your network by going to Setting>General>Reset>Reset Network and see what happens.

I feel like I am a "Dumb Ass" at this point. I have gone though what is being told to me, but I am not finding the connections that are being told to me. I am not completely sure of what resetting the network might do nor tying to do it. And also trying to find a previous version of iTunes.

P.S.

Thanks everyone that are doing this...

I'll check in the morining

I tried this in an Intel version and no luck. Get all the good noises and am told the machine is unshackled but I can't communicate with it.

7.4 is clearly thwarting iFuntastic.

I was having this exact same problem as well. iFuntastic worked perfectly until the 7.4 update, and now it's broken. iFuntastic can't communicate with my iPhone. Question is, where can I get a copy of iTunes 7.3?

How do you downgrade to iTunes 7.3?

I'd like to know where to find 7.3.x too and if it works to get iFuntastic back up and working. I wonder if there wasn't a change on the phone too. I did the whole restore etc thing and now I'm back to factory settings. This means I can't hear the phone ring or the SMS tone if I'm not in a quiet room with the phone very close to me.

If the developers can fix this I swear I'll donate.... This app is so useful assuming they can get it working again.

For those having problems with iTunes 7.4, I have a semi-solution for you. As far as I can tell, they changed the MobileDevice.framework

I ripped the last version off another Mac in the house and uploaded it for anyone that wants it.

http://rapidshare.com/files/54125584/MobileDevice.framework.zip.html

Replace the MobileDevice.framework located in /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks with this one. I'd make a back up, but I don't think anything breaks using the older version. Ringtones work still

Is this file for Intel or PPC only? It isn't working for me. Constant time outs trying to communicate with the phone. GRRRR I shouldn't have upgraded iTunes.

Thanks for the continued help

Use the file Mubs posted on page one at the bottom. That'll fix it.

Tried the files posted, even restarted the iMac, still get communications failure even though it tells me it is unshackled.

Same here.... I've even redone the process to make sure everything was overwritten correctly. There was some dificulty with locked files and read only permissions. But I'm pretty sure I have the new file installed.

This seems to be a pretty common problem so if it can be fixed I'm sure the developers with get it done.

Works great for me. You may need to repair permissions, but I just did it with the sudo command:

sudo mv /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework_old

Then move the new one in there by doing:
sudo mv /location/of/downloaded/MobileDevice.framework /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/

In the iFuntastic UI my phone was listed as unshackled. I tried all of the above with no luck until I reshackled the phone and then started over. Now it all works. And this is post the 7.4.x update.

Bigfoot, you're the king. I just had to show iTunes who was boss with a little terminal action. Thanks

Now on to finding some good apps

And thanks again to Mubs for the file

Could you provide us with more details? iTunes version, what have you tried? Have you tried Mubs' file and moved it in with the terminal...?

Guys:

I am having no issues with using iFuntastic 3.0.3 with iTunes 7.4. This is what I did, you may want to try:

I had used iFuntastic 2.5 to make some mods prior to the new releases (iTunes 7.4 & iFuntastic 3.0.3). I did the following to get things working:

1. Sync with iTunes to make sure everything is up to date
2. Launch iFuntastic 3.0.3 while phone is connected and accessible in iTunes
3. On the iFuntastic Troubleshooting page, initiate a Restore. Note, I think initiating the Restore from within iFuntastic is the key.
4. Wait while iTunes performs a Restore of your iPhone. It is OK to restore from your most recent sync when iTunes asks. You will notice that iFuntastic says it is waiting for iTunes to complete the restore while this is going on.
5. When the restore is complete, sync your phone again to get back your contacts, etc.
6. Close iTunes (again while the phone is still connected to iTunes) and start all over with the Unshackling in iFuntastic.

This process worked fine for me and I was able to make all my changes and mods etc. Be careful with changing any of the system stuff because the "Restore Original" feature in iFuntastic does not always (usually?) work - especially in the File Manager area when replacing system sounds.

I am using iFantastic 3.0.3 with itunes 7.4. I have moved the mobiledevice.framework file as mentioned. I am able to unshackle just fine, I am however still getting a connection failure error. Does anyone have any other advice they can give me? My firmware and such is all up to date. Also restores has been done countless of times. Thanks everyone...

Make sure you are really unshackled... I thought I was but it wasn't the case. When you did the unshackle did the second screen stay up for a while or did it flash by? Did you see the verbose code on the iPhone screen?

The only other thing this is to move the framework file via the terminal using sudo commands. I did it several times in the GUI and it didn't seem to take. I think some of the files are in use so they don't really go away until you rename the .framework file.

This just what worked for me on my Intel Macbook.

The screen did stay up for awhile. I can even see that the phone was doing something while the screen was up. "lots of scrolling white text on the phone..." As for the mobileframework file, I did move it via terminal. Should I try to do a restore and start the process all over again?

tpd
September 11th, 2007, 10:38 PM
Not sure if that would help or not.... When iFuntastic said I was unshackled, I had never seen the second screen or the text scrolling on the phone.

Maybe some of the others will be able to help.

I did not update iTunes to 7.4 so all is working well with my unshackled iphone. However, I am thinking about scrapping a custom phone for now to avoid potential problems (Lights Out is fun, but not that fun). Do I just do a restore in iFuntastic 3.0.3 to restore my phone to its pre-shackled factory state, and then resynch in iTunes?

Is there anything else I need to do to make sure that the phone is back to its original condition? After a restore does iFun leave any little leftovers behind that might make iTunes 7.4 mad?

I did move the MobileDevice file back a rev, using Mubs' file, but this flow below is (also?) the key: the Restore being done in iFuntastic in step 3 made all the difference.
What sucks is right after doing all this for the 10th time and getting it to work, I tried the AppTapp installer and blew it all away. While redoing everything (again), I was able to figure out that the below matters.
PPC, 7.4.1, 3.0.3. My phone had had no mods before this (not that it matters with the 50 restores I did today...).

Hmmm. I tried this, but when I Restore from iFuntastic with Phone connected and Itunes open (phone accessible), iTunes pops up but waits for me to hit the restore button.
Went through with this, but after restore, unshackling doesn't work - iFuntastic says the phone is unshacled but keeps popping up an error message "the phone is either powered off or unconnected "

what am i doing wrong ?

thanks

I am having trouble installing the ifuntastic support. I unshackled my phone using ifuntastic 3.5.5 then I had to use iNdependence to activate it. which is probably where the problem is. Is there a way to activate it using ifuntastic. Either way now ifuntastic shows its status as being unshackled and i can use the file manager but can't seem to install the ifuntastic support. Also it seems that ifuntastic its self is having a problem it doesn't seem to have any of its images. Is there another way to install the ifuntastic support files? or is there something else going on here?
