so my ipod is synched to my old laptop (it decided it would rather catch on fire than continue to serve me) and i still have all the same music on my new computer but i just want to get my ratings for the songs off my ipod. it tells me i have to erase the ipod to synch it with my macbook. any way around this?

Can you access the hard drive from your old laptop or is that toast as well?

It is the best $8.00 you will ever spend. It was one of the first and no doubt the easiest. It is your tunes, DO NOT trust them to any other program.

I'm sure you could "find" that application somewhere. Have you tried just dragging the files over? I don't know if the ratings come with, but it might be worth a try.

try ipoddisk (http://code.google.com/p/ipoddisk/). it allows you to mount your ipod like an external drive, allowing access to the artist folders. it seems to be one of the fastest ways to transfer your music back onto your computer, but you say your music is already on the computer. i dont know if transfering the music over would retain the track or album ratings. you could give it a try tho. best of all, its free.

Senuti seems to work good for me...
