An independent developer going by <em>"lg"</em> has created an application that brings scrolling to the iPhone's home screen. SummerBoard (a play on the term "SpringBoard" another name for the home screen) is an app intended to fix the problem of having too many native app icons. When you have too many icons on the home screen, the access gets pushed off the edges of the screen. This app allows you to scroll through the apps as a list.<!--break--> Also notable is that it enables you to put your wallpaper as the home screen background, which is otherwise black.
Neat as this app is, it is still young and relatively new. There are likely to be a few bugs. Still, all in all it's a clever hack. We've tried it out, and it seems to do what it says it does relatively well.
You can download SummerBoard with Installer.app (aka App Tapp), which you can find <a href="http://iphone.nullriver.com/beta/" target="_blank">here</a>.
