If rumors are true, Apple has really been holding out on us and going a long way to hide some cool new features they've added to the iPhone 2.2 beta. The latest version listed only "compatibility testing" in its release notes, but sources have uncovered several big new features. <!--break-->

Among the changes are support for Japanese emoji icons (<a href="http://www.macrumors.com/iphone/2008/10/05/iphone-2-2-includes-hidden-japanese-emoji-icons/" target="_blank">these things</a>). Their initial absence <a href="http://www.iphonealley.com/news/iphone-3g-demand-fading-in-japan" target="_blank">was thought</a> to significantly hinder sales in Japan.

2.2 also includes support for Google Street View in the native Google Maps app. In case you're not familiar, Street View lets you walk down streets through a dynamic panoramic view of what the area looks like on foot.

Lastly, they are also adding the ability to turn off the iPhone's auto-correction capability. Earlier <a href="http://www.iphonealley.com/news/users-petition-apple-to-add-auto-correction-off-switch" target="_blank">last month</a> a petition to Apple asking for the feature managed to gain 20,803. A new page on the <a href="http://please-let-us-disable-autocorrection-steve.com/" target="_blank">petition's site</a> now displays a thank-you page for making the change.

Late last month we reported on <a href="http://www.iphonealley.com/news/apple-seeds-iphone-22-beta-1-to-developers-safari-interface-changes">tweaks made to Safari</a> in iPhone OS X 2.2.

Is there any info on the update if it includes the following:

1. Copy/Paste.
2. Ability to edit documents such as OpenDoc and PDF.
3. Ability to record/send video & audio podcasts.
4. Camera enhancements such as digital zoom, low light settings, etc.
5. Ability to delete photos on the iPhone.
6. The Photograph app to actually categorize the photos as events as seen in iPhoto.
7. Ability to run apps in the background via push data such as for using chat messengers, streaming radio, etc.
8. Ability to tether for countries that allow tethering such as Canada.

Didn't know you represented all Apple customers. I'd love Street View. And remember that most customers are using Legit phones, so adding the ability to turn off auto-correction is doing exactly what the customers want. And bluetooth audio? My ear buds do quite nicely, and I suspect are far superior in audio quality than any bluetooth headset.

Have they fixed email fetching that was broken in 2.1? Since then the iphone no longer fetches email in the background when on battery.

I wish there was a toggle to download the full message. Mine sometimes downloads the whole message & sometimes only the partial copy & I have to click on "download remaining". I would think this setting would be hidden somewhere in a plist but I couldn't find it in google. Only reason it's an issue is if I'm reading email when I no longer have an internet connection. I have to make sure to hit "download remaining" while connected.

Street View in the native Google Maps app will be great!

you would notice that I was referring to my opinions!! i dont care what you want or need. With that kind of attitude, then I am very happy that Apple isn't wasting time adding bluetooth audio to the iPhone as I wouldn't use that function and neither would anyone I know. I'm glad they are focusing on other things that I personally will benefit from like Google Street View.

Thank you! isnt it nice to post your opinion?

thats awesome you want street view you stalker. I still dont see the point. just like mobile me, pointless. its not like its up to date with the latest pics posted. i can see my neighborhood and the photos dont even show the housing development across the street which have been there for almost 3 years. and the street view is only on major streets so why the big fuss? give me a real life scenario where this comes in handy? besides for stalkers, that is!

3rd im not the only one who wants bluetooth audio. however i do want it a lot more than most people. its nice to stream to a device other than a wired headset. that is so 90's. and thats one of the top 10, street view was not even thought of until just a short time ago. if apple was so gun-ho about the top 10 list rather than trying to add garbage they might actually sell more. these are what the people have requested time and time again. not just me! but i preach it a lot more cause apple(rep) lied to me about it being in the next update, and have been bitching ever since. oh and i dont plan to stop bitchin on this forum.

My wife's free phone has MMS. Why doesn't the "leader" in phone tech have it? This is the feature that surprises most people when I tell them that my fancy phone doesn't have it.
