PiperJaffray analyst Gene Munster said on Wednesday that he expects there to be quite a few new products to be announced at WWDC, but the iPhone will be left out.

According to Munster "While there may be rumors of an iPhone launch at WWDC, we expect Apple will host a separate event in late June to launch the device. But Apple will not fail to deliver new products at WWDC,". While most of us weren't expecting iPhones to materialize at our houses on June 11th, WWDC has been generally accepted as the date on which the iPhone will be released.

Although Munster is a reliable source, he is by no means always right. Consider this, the iPhone was officially announced and unveiled at Macworld this January; it doesn't make much sense to think that we would need another such event now that we've seen the device. We also have reason to believe that, although the iPhone won't ship until later in June, we will be hearing details and ship dates during Steve Jobs' keynote at WWDC.
