A recent USA Today article discusses how the iPhone will shake up not only AT&T, but the entire mobile phone market.
In the past few years, mobile service has become accessible to nearly everyone due to cheaper phones and the need to stay constantly connected, and because of this massive growth, the market has changed significantly. According to Charles Golvin, an analyst from Forrester Research, 78% of U.S. households now have mobile phones, and this means that wireless carriers need to adopt a new strategy for gaining customers.
According to Golvin "Today's market is not about finding new opportunities, it's about stealing somebody else's customers."
AT&T believes that the iPhone presents a grand opportunity to do just that. As it stands today, Verizon is number one, and AT&T feels the iPhone is just the edge they need to compete with them.
Of note, the article points out that AT&T has an exclusive partnership with Apple that will last five years, an eternity in the fast paced world of mobile communications.
