I apologize for being the bearer of bad news but this is not a software issue but rather a hardware issue.
My very first, first gem iPhone had the same problem ( the bottom half of the screen was unresponsive).
I tried a plethora of things ( downgrading, restoring..etc)
But nothing seemed to fix it
So I finally contacted apple and they indeed said it was a hardware issue
So I traversed to the apple store and received my replacement ;)
I can assume since you stated that you were unlocked then you are not running at&t
If you were to visit an apple store they would decline to help you
There are three solutions
- borrow an AT&T sim card from a friend and activate your phone with the sim and then ask your friend to go to the apple store and get it exchanged for you
-buy another one
-call apple and say you bought am unopened iPhone from eBay and you were about to activate it but noticed your iPhone was messed up
Then Im pretty sure they will replace it

Hi, Dont panic! Just to let you know, it might be worth trying to get the phone into recovery mode using Ziphone, then you could try Pwnage 2.01 again. If it still fails then you could try following the Dev teams suggestion to pwn to 1.1.4, then 2.01.
Although it has been reported as a screen fault by various posters, it seems an odd coincidence that it happened straight after the upgrade. A very similar thing happend to me when I first using pwnage 2.01, but I used the above method to get the phone into recovery mode and its all fine now.
One other point, you haven't dropped the phone have you? The reason I ask is because a mate did drop his phone he had no response to the screen, eg couldn't "slide to unlock". However after a couple of days, and another drop (I'm not recommending this!) the phone started responding again, and its been fine since.
Hope this helps.
