It has been confirmed today that the iPhone will be available in 2000 retail locations at the time of it's launch in late June.

According to Bear Stearns analyst Andy Neff, who had a chance to meet with members of Apple's executive team, Apple plans to have it's revolutionary new mobile phone in every one of it's US retail outlets and 1,840 AT&T "wireless boutiques".

The analyst writes:

<blockquote>"Apple affirmed its goal of June release for iPhone and expressed confidence in meeting its target of 10 million unit shipments in 2008 given iPhone's superior user experience, which Apple referred to as 'transformational,'"</blockquote>

Neff also added that Ron Johnson and his Apple Retail team are continuously trying to improve the user experience in it's retail outlets and are expanding Apple's overall storefront presence. In addition to simply opening more retail stores, Apple is expanding it's store-within-a store program to include 200 Best Buy stores. At this time, however, according to all Apple reports, the iPhone will only be sold at Cingular and official Apple retail stores.

Also worth noting is the comment regarding "resource leveraging" where an Apple executive mentions that the iPhone is <i>in fact</i> going to be running Apple's next generation operating system, code-named Leopard.
