We're currently waiting on the iPhone-Dev Team to release the next version of their pwnage tool. The new one is said to jailbreak both the iPhone 2.0 software and iPhone 3G. It will unlock the first-gen iPhone as well. (Updated)

Actually, Pitey (Dev Team member) during a live chat at TUAW with Erica Sadun said today that Pwnage does not have an unlock for the 3G, not yet at least.

The question is: will the devs wait to release the new Pwnage Tool until they unlock the new device? If yes, the wait can be longer than expected.....

So I hear that 3G will not work with the tmobile edge internet since its 3g is a whole new internet is it true? That sucks.

So is it worth it to get a 3g or stick with the original iphone. Sounds to me that theres more to do with 1st gen than there is with a 3g.

Well, if you can manage to use the 3G model on T-Mobile's edge, and wish to do so, the going rate for Gen 1 iPhones was more than the cost of a 3G + ETF. At least that's the way it was on eBay whenever I checked.

yeah, but that is ebay. if you are going to buy an old iphone, buy local through craigslist or something. the ebay prices are high because of international buyers where there are no iphones, but the app store is live (like russia).

also, the 3g iphone will work on tmobile, and edge will work, but 3g speed will not work. the tmobile 3g network is a different frequency than the att 3g network (not to mention it is very limited location wise).

Stick with the original. I mean, if you don't have any iPhone, it may be debatable what to get, 1st gen or 3G (eventually 3G will be unlocked too). But if you already have a 1st gen, the 3G ain't that different. The biggest difference is in 2.0, which runs on both. The speed of 3G is nice, but 3G coverage isn't fantastic. GPS is a nice feature, but lots of people have GPS in the car, and if you need a GPS when you walk or run, you better see your doctor...

That's why I haven't updated yet. Also, even after the new Pwnage comes out, some apps that are not approved by Apple may not be ready for 2.0. For instance, SummerBoard is not approved. I think it makes your iPhone unique, and I may wait until it runs on 2.0 to update

You can have your own theme and icons on your springboard, rather than having the stock icons from Apple. It is fun and it lets you customize your machine, which is exactly in the spirit of Apple's computer. Also, another App that I don't think is approved is AFP (Apple Filetransfer Protocol). If you are a Mac user, it lets you mount your iPhone on your desktop and you can transfer files from the Mac to the phone and vice versa with drag and drop

but when you do this, you lose 2.0, and go back to 1.1.4

it is not a 2.0 unlock

(and it's pretty involved...)

You might also want to check out the latest version of Customize. It has a built in theme browser with previews. I use Customize and Summerboard for the best in theming design.

Download PwnageTool 2.0 here (http://xs1.iphwn.org/video_assets/PwnageTool_2.0.zip), or there (http://thebigboss.org/repofiles/nonrepo/PwnageTool_2.0.zip). If you have installed the previous version of PwnageTool then delete or rename it so there are no conflicts with this newer version.

Download the 3.9 and 4.6 bootloaders here (.rar file) (http://www.enkrypted.com/bootloaders.rar). Extract them to your desktop or somewhere else where you can easily find them.

If you haven't already downloaded 2.0 firmware from Apple, then you can download it here (http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-4956.20080710.V50OI/iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw).

Some Macs have been having the bouncing app in the dock issue.

flag 420 (http://www.iphonealley.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7384&goto=nextnewest) found this work around which I cut and pasted here for your convenience.

Once the Pwnage icon is bouncing, launch the OS X Activity Monitor and kill the sub-process named "ps". Then pwnage might launch as it did for me !

Has anyone notice, that when you're using the new 3g phone and trying using the Pwn'dTool it never asked me for the boot-files that everyone is saying that you need?
I was able to Pwn'd my 3g Iphone with only one problem. The first time i got an no service error, all i did was re-download the tool and redo it and everything is working just fine...
All i need to learn how is to install those wonderful apps using SSH.....

I got the 1600 error when trying to install the custom firmware I created using the Pwn Tool on my Mac. I stopped there as I was unsure if all had gone well because I also noticed that the Pwn tool I downloaded did not show up as "Pwn 2" but showed up as "Pwn". That and the process steps never asked me to indicate what BL I have. Apparently, you need to indicate that as it needs to neuter the BL. So... I aborted the mission. And yes, I installed the new 2.0.1 version.

One more thing, apparently none of the installer apps run on the 2.0 firmware and I really don't want to give up my installer apps (ie Vonagent, Orb, SMB, etc...).

Installer aps won't work because they need to be recompiled to work with all the changes in 2.0.

For your error, you can probably get it to work by dumping the preference file. Close the app and trash /Users/Username/Library/Preferences/com.devteam.pwnagetool.plist

Then run the app again and it should ask for the bootloaders

It doesn't ask you because the 3G uses a new bootloader. PwnageTool does not unlock the 3G so no need for these bootloaders.

Ahh, i'm in Pwnage Tool 2.0.1 and I can't get it into DFU mode. I followed Mark's instructions on creating a Device Support folder, but still no go. The iphone is displaying the connect to iTunes symbol but no slider is shown.

Please help.

answer no as this makes the system thik that your starting from scratch and it juct tahn refreshs everything mate

When I pwnd my phone with 2.0.2 everything worked great. Then I upgraded to apple's 2.0.1 and everything was gone, installer, cydia etc. Started again and the same thing. How do you upgrade to 2.0.1 and stay pwnd?

I was finally about to jailbreak, so I upgraded from 2.0 to 2.02 firmware. Without thinking to check that it was 2.01. Now I have to wait 'til they approve 2.02 firmware for the WinPwn. Bleh.

Hello evereyone,
i have an iphone first generation, i recently installed firmware 2.1 with PwnageTool, after i while i decided from the telephone itself clean up everything, all the general info and estart, so that the iphone could be empty, and i think i made a mistake, cause it did clean everything i guess (took 2 hours to the iphone to do that) but now when the Iphone wants to restart it just stay with the pineapple logo trying to restart but dosent do it, and i cant di anything, no reinstall the Pwnage, not conect to Itunes, anything

please can someone help me out here¨¨

I think you need to put in dfu mode and then repeat the pwn process again

Hi i have exactly the same problem. Tried to reset the phone to clear out all data and now have an unusable iphone. Any idea please???? HELP!!!! ta!
The phone will not switch off. I can hold down the home and top keys for about 5 sweconds and the screen goes blank but when i restart it i have exactly the same problem. It will not respond to, or connect to anything!
