For those of you who aren't familiar, Midomi.com is a website that can listen to a song you hum into a microphone and guess what it is. Now they have launched a native iPhone application that uses their database of songs so you can find out the name of that song stuck in your head no matter where you are just by humming into your iPhone. Gizmodo gave it a try humming a little-known tune by Rick Astley into it and it guessed the app after just 48 seconds. You can download the app in the App Store.

Shazam is a similar app. It doesn't let you hum, but it can identify a recording of an actual song.

Maybe Midomi servers are getting hammered, but I couldn't get it to correctly identify my humming or playing songs from iTunes (using about a 15 second preview).

Shazam has a fixed sample time (10-15 seconds) and it matched about 5/5 songs I played at random from iTunes.

Because we all want little girls singing Miley Cyrus next to us whereever we go, great idea Snoop1990! :p

Rock Band would be insaner than insane on the iPhone. Drums, guitar, and vocals, downloadable songs anywhere, play with your friends over the phone, or join your friends and play on your iPhones and iPods together.

so I have to buy new headphones for me :D ones that are so big I hear nothing but the music.

It would be even better to get something like "dance star" when your phone shows you how to move and then uses a internal front cam to verify your moves. ... but the iphone has no front cam so we have to wait for the next iphone to arrive ;)

I hope this is a free app ... I can't imagine too many people paying much $ for it. Interesting though.
