I'm curious whether any of you have a time signature preference. I think most of you listen to rock or some variant, which is largely 4/4. But I have heard some pleasant 3/4 music lately on an indie rock radio show, so now I'm wondering whether styles are changing. What do you all think?

I think the styles are changing, of course we will all ways have oldies and classic rock and genres like that, but it is definitely changing.
I play violin and so my preference is 3/4, but 4/4 is nice as well, i think it just depends on the style of music.

I'm embarrased to say that I don't know anything about timing. But judging by the lack of responses, I'm guessing that most of us don't.

I'm a fan of 5/8 time actually, has a very nice pleasant and expressive feel.

3/4 time - meaning 3 quarter notes (or its equivalent) to a measure = a waltz
4/4 time - meaning 4 quarter notes (or its equivalent) to a measure = almost anything :)
6/8 times would be 6 eighth notes to a measure - etc. etc. etc.
