I'd say it's high time we held our first contest here at iPhone Alley, and so we're starting off with a bang. To be precise, we're giving away a brand new 16GB iPhone 3G. Yarly.
Here's the dealio: Over the course of 30 days, every post made in our forums counts as one entry into the contest. At the end of the contest, we'll pick the winner randomly from the pool of entries. Each post is an entry, so the more you post, the greater chance you'll have of winning. But don't think you can simply post garbage. We'll be watching each post closely and only quality posts will be counted. Spammers will be banned. If you don't win the iPhone, we still have one runner-up prize. The second name drawn will receive a Marware Sport Grip of either the 3G or original variety, depending on the winner's preference.
The contest starts on June 16th at Midnight Pacific Time and ends on July 16th at Midnight Pacific. The exhaustive list of details follow after the jump. Happy posting!

Great contest idea, but we should know who wins on July 10. Either way I'll have my iPhone 3G on July 11 ;). You guys are going to have to moderate a lot more spam with the contest, though :p.

Ditto on ending the contest earlier so the winner can be notified before July 11th. I know my chances are slim that I'll win the contest...but I'm planning on getting the iPhone 3G on launch day.

Good contest. Especially for those who stood in line for hours last June and paid $600 and are a little hesitant to shell out more money.

To upgrade, or not to upgrade.... That is the question I have been racking my brain over. But, if I win this contest, you will solve this problem for me.
Truly a great idea to up the comment base on this site. I have been an avid reader of your site since the beginning, but am only now registering.
Great business plan.

Well technically, anyone can participate. Thing is, since the dollar is in such a crappy place right now, it may not be a good idea.

How are you going to win a 3G iPhone when you can't even buy one as a gift? Am I going to be on an AT&T contract through iPhoneAlley.com?
Again, a really great contest and thank you guys for the hard work and updates. It's a shame you're not going to be able to follow through and buy an iPhone 3G for the lucky winner since you can't walk out of the F'ing store without signing away your life.

I have a rare condition called Purchase-itus. It forces me to make unwise purchases even when I know it's bad for me....like the iPhone 3g. Such a great phone, but with AT&T in the mix, well...it's just bad.
Please save me from this illness by purchasing a 3G iphone for me. Thank you.

I am waiting at least one day before I buy the iPhonee. I was in the apple store today and it was a madhouse. It was like they were giving the stuff away.
When I talk with one of the consultants he said it was worse yesterday. (Fathers Day). As it still stands activation is happening in the store.
I'll wait, but not to long. I must have the iPhone goodness. I have a Treo 700p that will will do car duty.

That was my question until I read a little further... You win a $300 Apple gift card. Nice work around but, to be technically correct, you would need to cover the taxes as well.
When I win though, you won't hear any complaining! :-)

For those who want to know how IPA will give you a phone they don't. It's a $300 US Gift Voucher which, here in Australia, translates to AUS $318.50. Which means you might be lucky and get an 8G model for that price. Knowing how they inflate things from Apple over here. Rumours are it isn't a true 3G phone on our NextG network. Anyone care to comment on that? And why does the spelling checker tell me that Rumours should be spelt Rumors? ;P

A contest is great. Finally, a great website doing something fro it's audience. Anyways, the new iPhone is amazing since it has 3G and GPS, now I can never get lost. :D
The iPhone could also be better with these things:
-Better camera.
-Video capture
-Non-exclusive contracts with one carrier D:

It maybe a gift voucher.. which can be turned into something far more valuable.. iTunes credits on the US Store
At least I'm hoping that is the case.:D

Haha, it would be "Super Sweet" to win a free one... there is NO Apple store in my city (unfortunalty) but ATT is the main carrier near us so i will have to wait to get one then.
It's a good thing it is coming out in the summer, otherwise i wouldn't be able to be the first one to get one! Standing outside waiting, LOL!... Who will be ready and waiting for them to open the gaits?

I changed the "name" of the contest to be more in line with what's actually happening. To be clear, we're giving away a $300 Apple Store gift card. Essentially, we're buying the winner an iPhone 3G.
Good luck!

Michael, thanks for pointing this out to all of the posters that obviously didn't read the contest rules closely enough. With the $300 gift card I can even choose the white one....Though I never would unless the black ones were sold out for months. Seriously, is there anyone out there who wants the white iPhone?

They did mention that you are going to win it as a gift card right? Then you can go out and buy your own phone with a contract. I guess the title of the drawing should be "Win a $300 Apple Gift Card". However, not as catchy as a 16GB iPhone 3G though.

Def a great idea. I just wish AT&T would not jack up the price that Apple is selling it for. It must be scare tactics. I bet if you are eligable for an upgrade, you would get it 50% off of the 199/299. Who wants to bet?

Definitely not! I'm sticking to the black unless the black color is like the black MacBook... My computer gets fingerprints, and grease on it and it shows like glowing neon stripes on black leopard!
Black is definitely the best choice!

I've been debating on whether or not to switch carriers to AT&T and go with a new iPhone, or stick with T-Mobile and keep the Blackberry. If I win, I guess that'll end the debate.

I've been a Mac Pro user since 2004 coming from PC's and Windows XP. :( The transition was great. :D Of course I was one of those early adapters of the iPhone, standing in line to be one of the first iPhone owners. I will be there again July 11, 2008 for the 3G. I am giving my 2G iPhone to my son-in-law. He uses Cellar South, he will have to jailbreak it to use his sim, and of course I am telling him about iPhone Alley to keep up to date on iPhone news.:D

The white iPhone is there as an alternative... it looks cool but the black one just screams awesome to me.
Also, if you win the gift card in another country like Canada would it be a cash gift card or an Apple gift card? If an Apple gift card, would it work with Apple Canada?

So if I win a new iPhone, I then only have 30 days to register the phone into an AT&T account. I have Verizon. It would be hard to change and while I like the contest and would love to have the 3g iPhone, it's always hard to register to win something that I am going to have to pay for, for the next 2 years. that would be an awesome prize, atleast the first year but I know that it would be expensive to pay for (from the contest providers). But I would still take one.

There is a difference between giving away a free iphone 300$ and an iphone + 1 year feeds which is about 1000$ depending on the country you choose ... So I guess it was the right choice to give away a free iphone.

why would you have to register in 30 days? Since it is a gift card you could just wait until you got off your verizon plan. Also, this contest is for someone who is planning to buy an iPhone and would rather not pay for it and saving money for the plan and contract with At&t. Plus, it's free don't complain!

And I have another interesting question: Can you get the iPhone with a Gift Card? As far as I remember this was not possible with the original iphone. ???? By the way a friend of me that came from Germany yesterday was showing off a bran new 3G iPhone... Per what he told me the company that he owns has an INTERESTING contract with Apple and they were able to get it last week... The new features are really cool and the internet connection is sick compared with the EDGE one.

I would love to work for a company who had interesting deals with apple. Sadly, I do not! Oh well, guess we will all have to wait until July 11. Man I wonder if MMS is not too far in the future?

I am just wondering what you need MMS for ? They are really overpriced at least in my country. Therefore I prefer emails !

I'm still up so decided to check the results. This will be a great opportunity for whoever wins. I'm hoping but I have much less posts than many of the members of iPA. Good Luck everyone. This was a great idea for a contest. It made me visit the site more and i helped quite a few people out who needed help. Once again, good luck.

Dude, I know what you mean. I saved up a bunch to get the 1st gen iphone and now buying another right now isn't looking to be possible. I'm a student too, but nice job posting. Without an iphone, you're pretty knowledgeable.

hey since the 3G has a plastic back, so is it lighter than the 2g?

Only by a none noticable amount. Aluminum and a filled polymer back weigh about the same.
