Hi Folks,
just found a very interesting link with very detailed information, how the iPhone may be hacked without breaking any laws.
There is a Czech company called BLADOX http://www.bladox.com/index.php?lang=en
They build a SIM-Card adapter, which allows to put in your personal carrier SIM inside and then tells iPhone during startup the IMSI-number from the AT&T SIM. Any ISMI request later than startup is only for network reasons and will not be a carrier check from the iPhone again.
As this info is brandnew, a few of the Turbo-SIM-Adapters are shipping these days and the according developers will report their results soon.
As of now, this looks like the most promising method to unlock the iPhone for all networks outside the US.
More details are here:

CU hopefully with a working iPhone

Woah, that's awesome. So if you use that method, do you have to walk around with one of those boards wherever you go, or do you pull it out after you boot?

it actualy sits under your SIM and fits into iPhones SIM tray, which means it stays all the time in the phone.

So it's a SIM card patch? (pun intended :D )

No! the SIM card is untouched. The traffic between SIM card and phone gets modified. It basically answers to the iPhone on all "What carrier is this?" with "At&T", regardless, what SIM is inside the iPhone. So legally the SIM is unchanged AND the iPhone is unchanged. Therefore no breach of laws in what so ever.

Current status:
you can either use a Nokia phone via Bluetooth or a Moto Razr via USB (driver update required) to get the "Appelsaft"-code onto Turbo-SIM and then enter it into iPhone.
Or latest reports say, that having an unjailed iPhone, you don't need a 2nd phone for uploading the code, as you can do it through the iPhone.
It has been positive confirmed for Call In/Out, SMS In/Out, EDGE/GPRS !!
Thanks to linc from Australia on the Vodafone AUS network.
I am waiting for an easy step-by-step guide (or even better, for my TurboSIM to write one myself).

I'm going to get to work on a tutorial/discussion thread. You can join in on the discussion over here (http://www.iphonealley.com/forums/showthread.php?t=677). And kheldour, thanks a TON for that link. You rock! Please feel free to join in as well.

Just to confirm:
TurboSIM works with ANY sim card on every network. If it doesn't, then you did something wrong in the process. If you follow the instruction line by line and word by word, it will work.
I have my T-Mobile Germany SIM working seamless for all functions except Visual Voicemail, because T-Mobile doesn't support VVM for now. But as they are going to be the "official" iPhone partner for Germany, that is a question of weeks.
MultiSIM option (on T-Mobile plan!) will make the TurboSIM NOT to work!!!
If you take the MultiSIM option from your plan, then your SIM will work again with TurboSIM. It took me a while to figure that out.......:D
