<img src="http://www.iphonealley.com/images/storyimages/apple_chrome.jpg" align="right"/> It's a bargain. Or maybe it isn't. The <a href="http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=browse&mco=AA9C1542&node=home/specialdeals/ipod" target="_blank">Apple Store</a> is offering a $20 discount on refurbished eight and 16 gigabyte iPod touches and iPhones. These units are marked as "Original Software Release" and priced slightly lower than those already updated to current software.

The stock has reportedly been cycling between available and unavailable over the past few days, so if you don't see a unit you want in stock, check back.

Now, the odd thing: The $20 saved on the iPod touch might have to be applied to get the applications released for the handset back in January...

When I look at any refurbished product, price is a big issue. I know that Apple probably has the best refurbished products in the entire electronics business, but a $20 discount is crap. BUT, when I went to apple and looked at the prices for refurbished iPod touch the discount was $70 for the original software and $50 off the new software versions.

On a side note, anyone considering an 80GB iPod classic that doesn't necessarily need the newest version, the old 80GB is only $190 or $60 cheaper than the 80GB classic. I am highly considering this option since the new look and interface is not really worth $60 to me. At the same time I am hoping they will get some refurbished 32GB iPod Touches soon.
