You say it works great. What system are you running on it now? Can you install Tiger on it?
Never mind!
Start over...... Boot up with the Leopard CD and run disk utilities and format (initialize) the hard drive and then install the operating system.

Can you see the hard drive in Disk Utility when you boot from the Leopard DVD? You may need to repartition the drive.

Grab the CD/DVD of the Operating system that you had working on your machine before you tried to upgrade. Chances are that you have your hard drive formatted some way that Apple no longer supports. Both of my Hard drives are Journaled HFS+

Just some general information:
If your harddrive is break you may want to contact the Apple store because hard drives have longer guaranty so the Apple store should replace the hard drive for you. Just my two cents.

Not sure if you having a problem still:
I upgraded my HD with the 320 WD Scorpio and Leopard Installed fine.
I've found out that if you are having any problems, just boot from the install DVD and you can fix it that way or it will troubleshoot itself.
I had a MBP's battery die while the computer was shutting down and even after it was plugged in I got blank screens. Simply popped in the DVD and booted from my last time machine restore and I was good to go.
Hope this helps!!!
