Hey guys. I've been trying to take a peek into iPhone's software restore stuff, but so far no dice. I hooked the phone up and hit restore. iTunes downloaded the restore imge and I uncompressed that to find a kernel cache and two disk images. One doesn't open and the other dmg has a password on it.
Is this an ACTUAL password or is it just the way I opened it?
Any ideas??

I do know that if you hold down the home button while placing the phone into it's dock and holding it while in there, it will force a system restore

The DMG containing iPhone's OS is now cracked. I've done a bit of rifling along with other people and found four files that reference different carriers. The names are:
Default_CARRIER_ATT.png
Default_CARRIER_VODAFONE.png
Default_CARRIER_CINGULAR.png
Default_CARRIER_TMOBILE.png
Looks like rumors of T-Mobile in Germany are true!

As a T-Mobile-User I would be interested to play around with that restore-file. Can you give some more advise, how to get there?
TIA

You can get at all the stuff by downloading the iPhone restore image. The image is on Apple's site here (http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-3614.20070731.Nt6Y7/iPhone1,1_1.0.1_1C25_Restore.ipsw). It's actually a .zip file, so just rename it from .ipsw to .zip. Then double click it to extract. The -39.dmg is the one with all the files in it. You'll need to unencrypt it using the instructions from here (http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php/Break_DMG_Password).
If all of that seems hard, just download iFuntastic and look in the /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app directory. You'll find the files in there.
