We decided a month or so ago that our humble little website is starting to get a little long in the tooth. It's been a while since our last site-wide redesign and we're quite happy with the outcome, but we want to know what all of you want. We're hoping to get something out before Macworld, optimistically before the end of this month. So tell us what you guys want out of iPhone Alley revision 3!

Let your imaginations run wild (but not too wild). Changes to the navigation, more features, design tweaks? We want to know all of it. The comments are open to your suggestions, go at it!<!--break-->

Get rid of the fish in the title bar. No fish. A fresh new design for the look is always a nice change. But no fish.

Done. That was one of the big things we decided upon early in the process. Thanks!

The quick links at the top should look more like the iPhone buttons. If you aren't looking for an exact representation of the iPhone then more color would be good. The iPhone is full of color without overdoing it.

And I agree, the fish has to go

Make the site more iPhone friendly (see iPhone Atlas) for quick loads and less crowding.

I would use icons from the iPhone. For example, the "hacks" icon could be the settings icon from the iPhone. Just my $0.02. ;)

i like the website i think that the hot forum threads should be qualified differently i dont know how easy that is to do though the fact that every time someone says something on an ancient theread or starts a new help thread it shows up there is a little annoying but more that anything that is posted in the like news section shouldnt show up there
maybe change whats in the like links bar i guess below the add maybe remove photos
thats just my oppinion

We are at the dawn of the availability of the SDK, it would be great to have a place where we could see, learn about, and chat about the latest native apps. You do a great job of highlighting the AJAX apps, the native apps need a place for us to discuss them.

I think that is a great idea...have a section for all the 3rd party apps and a little bit about each one and updates for them when they come out...that way everyone can stay on top of what is out there.

Hmm. I pretty much like the site as it is now. But I am liking some ideas some of the people are advising. But still, I pretty much love it now. Hope the new alley turns out GRRREEEEAAAT!

FAQ/Terminology page (http://www.hacktheiphone.com/112/iphone_terminology.html)
That was not so bad. Maybe just a link to their page. Which brings up the issue of; is iPhone Alley just a link from Hack the iPhone?
I see Hack the iPhone as the resource of iPhone Alley. Hack the iPhone is but a ski shop, iPhone Alley is the ski resort that you come to play and meet people. With a little creativity and a couple of links what is theirs is ours. Build a link or build a page! You decide. I just don't like having to go back to the ski shop once I am am the resort.:)

Now for the big bitch, I mean pitch.

That is just so usable. Okay it looks PeeCee, but it has a functionality and expandability to it. They are not vague. Your hack link is vague. It removes you from this site, and the others do not. It sends you away from the resort.
iPhone Alley, the resort, caters to many platforms, Hacks, and coming soon applications. People from around the world come here to play. Make it the most user friendly, unbiased, website for sharing iPhone experiences.

:pWell that is my rant and I am sticking to it.:p

I'm active on another site that does not use that kind of protection and they get 10-15 auto replies every day from some sort or response robots. That means the site moderator must investigate each posting to verify validity thereby taking time away from presenting valid Apple news updates. This is also a lot easier than entering a name and password every time you wish to make a comment and then trying to remember which name and password you used for that site.

I agree with the idea of keeping visitors on the iphonealley site, but you might want to consider becoming a portal to international iPhone sites using Google translation to make the sites readable by the english speaking visitors. Sites such as www.iphon.fr and www.iphoneuklaunch.com

i find it surprising that sites that are devoted to the iphone dont use the iphone web development kit.

this site should definitely be ported so that it is more easily viewed with an iphone.

in fact, not even apple's site detects the iphone. how can they expect other people to program for the iphone when even they wont do it?...

I already enjoy the site over others such as modmyifone. What I would like to see is contests from sponsors similar to maclife but open to Canada not just the USA. Being able to choose between the colorful default website and one less HTML intensive would be helpful. I'd also like to see a set of default avatars made available in the forum user control panel and not just uploadeble ones. If not already available I'd like to see the option for current subsribers to be able to submit news but is reviewed by the editor before being posted online.

I think that every time a new version of the iPhone is released, a link in the toolbar should lead to which version you have and how to jailbreak it. Version 1.1.2 is quite difficult for me to jailbreak, as i hardly know where to look. Hopefully you'll take this suggestion into consideration,

We're also looking for assistance from a PHP ninja or two. Someone with experience in Drupal would be ideal. Reply here or PM me if you're interested.

Thanks for all of the suggestions, we're loving them. Keep 'em coming in!
