Erica Sadun recently posted a tip on a possible volume boost which involved tweaking a system framework. She noticed that it's set at 0.7 by default and decided to set it to 0.99. The results? Subjectively she felt there may have been a difference, though she wasn't sure. However, in the wake of her tip, Nick Penree created an Installer package which made the tweak automagically. We gave it a try and, although the idea sounds good, haven't been able to determine conclusively whether the tweak actually makes a difference.

Erica tested the tweak using her Radio Shack sound level meter today and has determined that, if the iPhone does go up to 11, this isn't the way it's done.

If you want to give it a try yourself, you can grab AudioAmp from the "Tweaks 1.1.2" section of Installer.app. We'd love to hear what you think, although we believe that it doesn't do much if anything.

Without a scientific measure, I do agree the volume is much higher. Thank you,

I tried it and didn't really hear sound as louder - yet it seemed that there was more distortion...

Do you need to have FW 1.1.2 in order to hear it? I have 1.1.1 and I heard nothing, and although everything is only an opinion at this point, the download IS under 1.1.2 tweaks, so hmmmmmm.

Once it installs, does it just work? I have it installed but cannot find any program to speak of or make adjustments on the iphone.

I installed this hack from inside the Installer.app in a 1.1.1 phone, (I was looking at the "Recent Packages" tab and didn't notice this was in the 1.1.2 tweaks category)

The result was that lock/unlock, ipod, youtube, and sms alerts and phone calls don't make any sound anymore.

Ringtones are ok and if you use the headphones everything works ok, but this is annoying.

The worst part is that even with a firmware restore this does not get fixed.

I am unlocking the phone again so i'll try to make a few more things. If someone else has this problem let me know.

Re-edited the files and everything works ok. but why is this restore resistant?
