In a way yes, but the devs need people with a certain skill to go further in that direction. It's going to take some time since the new bootloader is security tight..

Hi Severed... I owned I new iphone (46th week -firmware 1.1.2 - bootloader 4.6)
I have understood that I cannot unlock the sim right now... but I want to use it as an expensive ipod... Can I use it within itunes?

All you have to do is the jailbreaking part, just don't do the anysim part in any way, shape or form.
