I currently have a 1.0.0 unlocked phone, modem firmware 3.12.06_G.
I'm thinking if I update to 1.1.1 my unlocked baseband will be overwritten since it is old... I've heard that if you update 1.0.0 to 1.0.2 your baseband changes to 3.14, so it relocks your phone, this should be the same as revirginizing? yes/no?
I would like to update this bugger, so I don't get left behind in future hacks.
Let me know if anyone you know has done this.

I guess you can give it a try. I would upgrade to 1.0.2 before upgrading to 1.1.1, though. If you have any problems, just downgrade: http://code.google.com/p/iphone-elite/wiki/DowngradingBaseband

I know I can update to 1.0.2 using the shift restore method, however, In downgrading a semi-bricked phone to 1.0.2 and downgrading the baseband, the sec zone I believe is still damaged, revirginizing, re-unlocking, reverginizing and unlocking again solved the lost IMEI problem, so when changing the modem firmware it doesn't seem to remove the unlock entirely, the seczone is still buggered.
SO THERE IN LIES THE QUESTION...
If I update the phone to 1.0.2 from 1.0.0 I would think the revirginizing process would have to be done, however it is a process for 1.0.2 modem firmwares, one that was unlocked at the 3.12 modem firmware, may not be virginizable as the 1.0.2 is (3.14 firmware). These are just my thoughts, and my situation.
Do I risk updating the phone, and if so does the phone re-virginize? I'm guessing no, but if it does, I should be able to upgrade right after restoring to 1.0.2 to 1.1.1. If it doesn't repair the baseband in the restore (it doesn't in a typical restore from 1.0.2 to 1.0.2), then I have to re-virginize, but will the typical re-virginizer even work.
I guess it's time to try and get a question in to the iPhone Dev Team, or the elite boys, one or the other.
anyone have thoughts on this? I don't want to get left behind and I'm sure new apps will be for 1.1.1 and noone will think about those of us at 1.0.0 anymore.
Cheers.
