Instant Jailbreak for iPhone and iPod touch

Those iPhone dev guys don't stop until they get things as simple as 1...2...3. In this case, the first step is the only step. A group of devs including hdm of Metasploit, pumpkin and NerveGas have introduced a single-step and insanely easy jailbreak for both iPhone and iPod touch. How simple is it? All you do is visit <b>jailbreakme.com</b> in your iPhone's browser and the rest is done for you.<!--break-->

When you visit the site, you will want to go through all of the instructions carefully. When you're ready, scroll to the bottom and click "Install AppSnapp". It'll crash Safari and start its work. After a few minutes, your iPhone (or iPod touch) will reboot, totally jailbroken with Intaller.app on the home screen. Erica Sadun of TUAW <a href="http://www.tuaw.com/2007/10/29/instant-jailbreak-for-iphone-and-ipod-touch/" target="_blank">has tested this on her own iPod touch</a> which was restored and then jailbroken in only a few minutes. It's just as easy as it sounds.

If you try it out, let us know. Our iPhone's are tired this time of night, so we haven't done it ourselves.

I already used the unlock method from iphonesimfree.com to unlock my iPhone and upgrade to firmware 1.1.1. I'm curious to know if it successfully unlocks new iPhones that now come with firmware 1.1.1 or is the user instructed to downgrade to 1.0.2 before using the online unlock method? Is AppSnap a program with in AppTap community sources or an entirely different installer program?

I'm unable to launch any of the 3rd party apps that Installer is installing. They crash as soon as I click them. Is anyone else experiencing this problem or know what to do?

Yeah, it installs installer fine, but none of the apps seems to work after install.

This jailbreaks in under a minute, but the customize and send song just crash and won't open...

if they can figure that out. donations will pour in...

I have the same problem. Of the half dozen or so apps I installed, I can only get Lockbox to work. The rest crash immediately after opening.

I wonder if it may be that the apps in question were written for 1.02, and I have 1.1.1......

install BSD Subsystem. then customize will start on the fourth try and then (mostly) work fine after that...

any messed with their mail accounts after doing this mine seems to be crashing now somtimes and other is says it cannot connect, i go to the mail setting and there is random code added to my server login for out going mail??? WTF?

--also PS how to do add Roms to use the NES emulator?

i solved the problem. i forgot to install the BSD subsystem. its necessary to run the 3rd party apps. hope that helps!

that seems strange that they would be based on the version because apptapp is now designed for 1.1.1 and I would think the compatibility issue would have come up before. Seems like some kind of error in jailbreak process. Did you start with a clean slate or just jailbreak from current hacked phone? The instructions I read didn't seem to say much since it is just a one step break

Everything works, all apps and tweaks on 1.1.1. I had to restart often during the app installation process so that all the apps, summerboard included, would become active.

Every time I try this, Safari crashes like it is supposed to but nothing happens after. I've even waited 15+ minutes but it never goes to the locked screen. I tried rebooting and restoring but neither works. Anyone know what the problem may be?

I had to install BSD Susystem to get the apps to work. Once I did that, then no problems. Has anyone tried a full restore after they used jailbreakme? I am wondering if it is really as wonderful as it sounds...

So I had version 1.0.2 on my iPhone. I have been having trouble installing 3rd party apps to my iPhone. Til todays jailbreak. I finally get the third party apps downloaded but none of them worked. So I thought the new jailbreak was for 1.1.1 but after updating to 1.1.1 it erased all my third party apps and now it wont let me do the jailbreak.....this sucks. I feel like I spent $400 on a phone. Any suggestions.

Oh I hope some of you read this as in the previous 20 posts noone ever ansered the question can you use the new jailbreak with 1.1.1....the answer NO

Yeah, but I had that same problem even when I unhacked it myself when the first guides started to circulate. I don't think it has to do with appsnapp. It's probably that they haven't been rewritten to work with 1.1.1

this program works great, i am using a phone running 1.1.1 and no problems. however you do need to be connected to wi-fi to go to jailbreakme.com and install bsd subsystem first. restart a few times and enjoy. this does work much better than ifuntastic crap

U need to install Community Sources, BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH before adding
any other programs. Once they are installed you can install anySIM and unlock your iPhone.
You can use Installer to add thirdy party programs simply..

so if anyone is still mad at apple for messing there iphone up y dont u go to an apple store near you and download installer onto as many fones as possible maybe even unlock them so they have to totally restore them to look good for the customers

Tap Tap Revolution FOR THE WIN! Everything works perfectly...for a couple of minutes, Customize would try to start, and then crash. I left the phone alone for 5 minutes or so, and it started working. Other applications (like Chat) are working well...this is GREAT!

How did you restore the iphone if is not activated? iTunes promps me to activate it when I conect it.
