Hi everyone,

I just bought my new iPhone yesterday and I want to get it to work with the T-Mobile network. If I understand the Hacking the iPhone tutorial on this site, I should be able to take my brand new iPhone and make it work on the T-Mobile network with FW version 1.1.1.

I followed the first page (http://www.hacktheiphone.com/111/iphone_step1_mac.html) on iPhone Alley for Hacking an iPhone and successfully downgraded my phone to FW 1.0.2. Before I continue with this, I want to know if I need to put my existing T-Mobile SIM card into the iPhone before Jailbreaking and Activation? If not, at what point can I exchange the AT@T SIM that comes with the phone for my T-Mobile SIM? I figure that all I have done so far is to downgrade the phone so I should be able to get back to factory settings if this won't work.

Also, I don't have a WIFI network at my apartment so I need to do this on another computer at work. Is it still possible to have the iPhone sync up to my Mac at home. I will be using a Mac at work as well.

Thanks for this great site! :)

i dont think it matters if you have the sim that came with the iphone or your t-mobile sim. i would probably leave the original iphone sim card and unlock it that way. for more information visit hacktheiphone.com. They have some great guides on how to uncloked with iIndependence and AnySim.

I kept my T-Mobile SIM in the whole time. You need to jailbreak and put ssh on the iPhone, etc. (which you probably know.. or should) and from there put anySim v1.1 on the iPhone. Boom! You'll be unlock'd and ready to rock.

Personally, I prefer iNdependence v1.2.5 for the jailbreak, install SSH and installation of anySim v1.1, but that is a personal preference.

Thanks for the tips. I successfully unlocked my iPhone yesterday and I'm now the proud owner of a T-Mobile iPhone!

It was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be. I used iNdependence and the great tutorial on Hack the iPhone to do the jailbreaking and installing of SSH. I then used iNdependence to install AnySim 1.1 on the iPhone and ran that program to unlock the phone. I did run into some troubles during the pre-update to 1.1.1 because I got some messages stating that my phone couldn't be read or written to. I just restore the phone to 1.0.2 and followed the steps from there.

I did have some trouble syncing the phone to my computer. I was getting some messages that the phone couldn't be written to. I eventually put the Autolock setting to never for the sync and then waited a long time for it to sync up the ~7 GB of data from iTunes.

Thanks again.
