Hey, I did some quick looking around the site, I apologize if this is in the wrong spot, or if it's already been explained. (Bear with me its 2am!);)

Well I already have an account with ATT, and am thinking about getting an iphone very very soon (probably next week) As I don't want to sign a 2 year extension on my service, I am planning on buying it from ebay and then using the methods I found on the site to unlock it using my sim. http://www.hacktheiphone.com/74/iphone_step2_windows_74.html
That's where I was reading.

Anyway It seems easy enough, the only question i have is, do I have to put my sim card into the iphone itself? I read through the guides on that page, and I didn't see it. I know my way around computers somewhat, I am not worried about trying the stuff on the site, I am just wondering how my sim will get into the Iphone?

My understanding is that I will have to Jailbreak the phone first then do what that page I linked above said. Am I right? Or can someone show me the way to the instructions I seemed to miss? Thanks tons all!

Jon

PS: I've seen an NES emulator on the iphone-where can I find that? I have tons of roms from my old emulator on a disk somewhere! :-)

Jon,

Yes, if you've got a cingular/ATT (GSM) phone you can simply switch the sim card from your existing phone into iphone.

The iphone will still need to be unlocked, but the process has gotten relatively straightforward unless you happen to get an iphone that has the latest 1.1.1 firmware installed (which is what is causing everyone problems).

One thing to be careful of is if you don't already have a dataplan on your ATT phone, you'll need to take precautions or upgrade your existing data plan. The reason for this is that the iphone uses AT&Ts "edge" network for internet access or wifi (when its available). If you don't have an "edge" data plan you could end up paying through the nose since you'll end up paying on a per kb usage. (Note the real iPhone plans come with unlimited data plan).

Personally, I have one of the 3rd party apps that disables edge and I use it only sparingly, but I use my phone mostly a work and at home where I've got Wifi (which is way faster than edge anyway).
